This came up in my feed today:

i saw that the other day. He forgot one. I read 20 years ago that Exhibit's "what a mess" was intended for Rakim, but dre rejected it. It wasn't even on the vinyl of Xhibit's album, but only on the cd extra disc bonus track. I had to buy it twice just to get that track.

Definitely onr of the GOATs, but I got Dre over him. 50 years of Hip Hop, Dre was highly impactful on four of them:

'80's- NWA

'90's- N4L, Nobody Does It Better, Chronic, Doggystyle, "California Love", Eminem

'00's- MMLP, GRODT, Game

'10's- Kendrick Lamar, although not as hands on, Kendrick is a Dre protege.

Primo’s production run from the late 90’s into the early 2000’s was insane & a big reason why fans were clamoring for the Nas/Primo collab album after I Am… (N.Y. State Of Mind Pt. II & Nas Is Like were amazing collabs) It was wildly disappointing that Nas dropped Nastradamus instead of a Primo album considering how bad the production was on Nastradamus. It was really around that time where Nas really earned the reputation of having terrible ear for beats.

I learned how to chop samples when I was in high school by putting my favorite beats in FL Studio along with the original sample and would try to recreate it. I did this with AZ’s “The Come Up”.

I could not crack the code :snoop:
I spent days trying to redo that beat. Even stole the drums from the Christina Aguilera song “Still Dirty” so it would have that feel. I tried multiple times for years after that, trying to make that fukking beat!
Just recently found out that Preem was manipulating the sample AS HE WAS RECORDING IT INTO THE MPC! He was holding the record back at certain points to get the timing perfect. :ohhh::gucci::picard::ohlawd:
Then chopped it and programmed the chops.

That’s why I couldn’t get the chops right! That’s some genius level shyt. GOAT!

As much as I love his production from this era, I think his best shyt is from the period right before this one. In hindsight, this was kind of his shift to that more formulaic sound that started feeling stale by around the 2010s~. He did so much innovating in the years before, but has kept the same sound for about 25 years now.

Not trying to be a downer. I love Preemo, it's just a thought.
