Prince never fell off. He just became bored with doing the same music over and over. He was versatile and often fans expect musicians to do the same music redundantly. He died in 2016, Baltimore was released a year prior

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
1978-1987 were his peak years for me. Then rap music changed everything. Early 80s were a whimsical time both musically and movies wise. His persona was perfect for the that era, like MJ. 90s was different. His music is too good for him to 'fall off'.

I don't remember listening to it when it first came out but that album's dope.

I remember Pulse magazine (the free mag that Tower records put out) tearing it apart among other mags of the time. Come wasn't also the best received album of his either. About as close to throwaways (minus Letitgo) as we got from him during that era.

I still listen to "Chaos And Disorder" till this day and top to bottom it's a good album. I definitely believe if you said that critics may not've liked it back then.

I'm gonna have to listen to "Come" because I don't think that I've listened to that one as a whole.

⚠️I’m a huge Prince fan⚠️

I’ll say his late 90s-early 00s period never really captured my attention (The Truth-Slaughterhouse). But even after that, he had a bit of a resurgence with Musicology/3121/RR HOF Performance/Super Bowl.

His early-mid 90s era (GB-TGE) gets as much play from me as his “peak” (‘79-‘87).

I know a lot of people & Prince himself didn’t like Come :dame:but I think it plays pretty well when you’re chilling at night:dame:

The creative leaps he took on SOTT and the Black album turned into a string of attempts at pop relevance that was hit or miss. Lovesexy had its moments but the Prince that I hold in high regard last showed his genius on SOTT

alot of yall gotta admit you have terrible limited taste and keep it moving
if you look at the pattern of people complaining... they will say they fukk with the drum machine heavy shyt and then say they hate the rock or jazz shyt
few people are saying they hate the ballads etc... you just gotta say, "it is what it is" and that you dont fukk with certain styles of music

im imagining people listening to "crystal ball" and having each song be a different style of music and people crying 2-3 songs in

I don't agree that he fell off after Sign O The Times. You could say that was his last truly classic or perfect album but the following years were really good. Batman soundtrack, Graffiti Bridge, and Diamonds & Pearls all came out within a couple years. The Love Symbol album is good. Come is good (pause). The Black Album, which was technically the true followup to Sign O The Times, is really good. Things get really hit and miss after that until Musicology and 3121.

You're still left with arguably the best discography of any artist, outside of jazz. How many artists have ten great albums?

You're forgetting one man and that man is actually Prince's musical father; Sly Stone.

Sly doesn't have 10 great albums. but he does have 9 great albums during an 8 year run from 1967 to 1975.

Sly Stone is the GOAT.

- A Whole New Thing (67')
- Dance to the Music (68')
- Life (68')
- Stand (69')
- Greatest Hits (70') - this counts because it had three new songs that hadn't been on album beforehand
- There's a Riot Goin' On (71')
- Fresh (73')
- Small Talk (74')
- High On You (75') - first and only solo album
