People in here saying he never fell off but haven’t liked an album from him since 1989 :heh:
He just wasn’t trying to fulfull the mold of a commercial artist breh

Although sometimes that’s exactly what he was trying to do

“Most Beautiful Girl in the World”
“Diamonds & Pearls”

And he has that song that is in the vain of Madonna’s “Vogue”

Prince gave us so many classics in his time in the 70’s and 80’s. Dropped some of my all time favorites from him in the 90’s. Artists would love to “fall off” in that way if he fell off in the 90’s lol.

act like Prince wasn’t dropping heat with Mobb Deep in the 2000’s breh’s

According to Havoc, Prince happened to be in Electric Lady Studios in New York at the same time that Mobb Deep were recording. When Havoc asked for his opinion on a work-in-progress beat, he just started jamming on a keyboard. Naturally, he walked out without even saying bye after he finished.

No fall off
People who say Prince never fell off are the ones who really never listened to his music.
After '88, it was hit and miss.
The early 90's was especially embarrassing.

I always liked this joint :pachaha::manny:

When did Michael and Stevie "fall off?"
Certain artists put out music for a stretch that's so legendary that nothing they do afterwards is going to match it, and that was Prince 82-91

Rainbow Children was his Nastradamus point, but dropped better releases after that up until his death

Homie use to go too far left with the experimental sound sometimes. Some of them albums aged horribly.

83-91?

You know Purple Rain came out in 84 right? Prince had so many legendary joints til the mid 90’s. I bet 2000’s artists would love to fall off like that :mjlol: These artists now be just dropping songs and having people think they were hits. Man Prince had a great run! He won a Grammy for Musicology. He gave us the goat Super Bowl performance. He was down with Zooey Deschanel for some reason and was on her Fox show. Man a lot of artists would love to fall off like that lol.

As much as people ride for Invincible, it was a cut below the quality of his previous work. Mike has had one of the longest runs of quality work.
People are just now starting to understand Dangerous. Eventually, they'll understand HIStory and Blood on the Dance Floor.

He was doing ill shyt on HIStory, like this:
TIMESTAMPED:

You dont realize that half the track is him beatboxing using his body as drums and percussion.

I'll be honest, the performances I've ssen of the HIStory tour are disappointing.
Too much lipsynching, recycled choreography, and Mike's energy was low a lot of the time.
There are flashes of the old Mike but most of the time, he seems tired.
And for good reason, son had been rocking stages before he turned double digits.

Stevie started to fall off after Songs In the Key. But it was gradual fall off.
Secret Life of Plants was a reset but makes far more sense in the context of the film.
Hotter Than July was dope but not on the level of the 70's masterpieces.
Much like Prince, it was hit or miss after that.
In Square Circle was Stevie's Diamonds and Pearls. A solid album but too focused on being current.

I would say Stevie's hit and miss period was more quality then junk, unlike Prince's.
He had shyt like That Girl and Do I Do out there.
The Woman In Red soundtrack has BANGERS
.

But it also has Don't Drive Drunk.
Characters is where we start giving Stevie a pass just because he's Stevie.
Luckily, Stevie recognizes that his best work has been done and he's chilling, as he should.
His Song In The Key of Life tour in 2014 was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Beat me to it with “My Name is Prince”.

To me, the best part of the song is when he mashed up “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Controversy”…the song is pretty much downhill from there.

That album is check engine light status.

Okay, I got some free time now, I'm going to grade 90's - 2016 album without using For You - Lovesexy as reference points.

Right off the top of my head (in chronological order):

Graffiti Bridge: 3/5
D&P: 4/5
Love Symbol: 2.5/5 (Check Engine Light)
Come: 3.5/5 (Space & Dark)
Gold Experience: 4/5
Chaos & Disorder: 1/5 (AWFUL. Delores & Same December account for the '1')

Emancipation: 3/5 (Too much. The magic is that there is a possible 5/5 album on here depending on how you cut it down to your liking..."The Love We Make"...)
The Truth: 5/5 (Nothing to say...it's classic P)
Rave: 2/5 (Snooze.)
Rainbow Children: 4/5 (The music's good...but this is him in full Jehovah mode.)

*Skips Jazz Albums*

Musicology: 3.5/5
3121: 4/5
Planet Earth: 3/5 (Mediocre)
Those Target Albums: Snooze
Art Official Age: 3/5 (Looking back, it's cool. It had me excited for the future...)
Plectrum Electrum: .5/5 (GARBAGE)
Hit n Run 1&2: 2/5 (Snooze)

That's just my opinion:yeshrug:

EDIT: Oh! Forgot 20Ten: 1/5

Honestly From For You to Sign of The times I think he released his best shyt one of the goat 9 album stretches. Then he had sprinkles here and there. But to me wasn’t the same.

Exactly how I feel...SOTT was his last quality album imo, I couldn't fukk with anything late 80s or 90s onwards from him. It wasn't bad, it just didn't move me
