I don't care for management honestly. But you're not making director and above at my company unless you've been there for like 20 years..

In my industry being any of those means no more creativity.

And instead managing teams and making sure everything else is done.

I was once that and these crackers do not want me on their plantation. :yeshrug:

So, I will proudly be a sub while I build up my media company.

These kids are hustling backwards. It's a bit sad.

Yeah that's the one thing people aren't mentioning.

Work Live balance for any Director, VP, C-Level position is shyt. It doesn't matter if you work for a small company or a big one. Its still a large sacrifice

Yeah, we actually had a director that went back to being a regular employee in Telecom. Said the position was too much stress.

I do want to start my own business as well, but I'm leaning towards just having a side hustle vs. risking it all to only focus on my own business.

this. the one thing you cats have good in the states, is that you have enough black ppl in powerful positions to allow you to become acceptable candidates for top positions. in canada it's a lot harder.

This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Unfortunately in my personal experience Black People have been the main ones trying to block me from doing better. It's like they want to be "special snowflake" or "token" amongst their White peers.

I don't want to be a manager because I don't like dealing with idiots. I don't see what's so hard about showing up to work, doing your job, then going home especially when you do the same damn tasks everyday.

I'll just stay in engineering where I can access a problem, recommend a solution, and if you don't implement it then I don't give a shyt.

Plus I can come and go as I please as long as the work gets done.

Breh, I really think more companies need to take a Valve approach. They have a flat company structure. Of course this may not work at large corporations and you really really need to make sure you hire the right people and people who enjoy what they do.

Valve: How going boss-free empowered the games-maker - BBC News

"Imagine a company where everyone is equal and managers don't exist.
A place where employees sit where they want, choose what to work on and decide each other's pay. Then, once a year, everyone goes on holiday together."

This.

They asked me if I wanted to be a manager 7 years ago and I said "no, because I want to be responsible for my own work...
and you all want me to stay pleasant around here." lol

If it were only that simple. I'm doing better than the majority of folks I know that tried to start businesses. Now if you are in the minority that succeed, life can be a breeze. But the majority fail.
Everyone fails but it's a matter of keep trying.

if you start a business because you want more free time, you are in for a surprise :lolbron:

first few years of your business, you're going to be doing the work of:

- a boss
- a manager
- a worker
- an intern
- a secretary
- an accountant
- your own therapist

it's politics. you will deal with that kind of shyt in a professional environment either way, but i'm just asking for a chance to get in the game in the first place.
