I'm a senior financial analyst ( Department of Finance). Two things need to happen for me to be a finance manager.

1) I have to get a masters degree

Or

2) Need 7 years work experience. If I get a masters degree, it's only five years of experience needed.

More than likely I'm going to get a masters degree. I'm Just deciding on which school.
Will they pay for the MBA?

That's my future plan, but Its not something I want right now. :yeshrug:

I'm making more money now than some directors, and once reach architect status, I will be making even more.
Plus I like actual work > meetings.Work life balance for C-level is pretty shyt.

My worklife is 40% meetings now, it would be about 80% as a director, and 100% as a CIO.

I think once I become a Senior Systems Architect, and have nowhere else to go from a title standpoint, i'll go back and get my MIS or MBA degree :ehh:

To elaborate on what I said in the other thread, I really didn't attack the corporate world with the ferocity that I should have had.

Coming into work 10-15 minutes late every day, not volunteering for special projects, not being driven enough to truly excel at my craft. I also let white folks intimidate me in certain respects, and didn't call them out when they were on that bulls**t. I'm a smart dude so I got my job done, but didn't stick out in any fashion.

In the past couple years, I've really raised the bar, but I wish I had this same type of drive when I was 25. It's maturity kicking in, but it hurts to see someone in their mid 20's with the same mindstate that I just recently acquired. I could be killing it right now.

Thread inspired by @Larry Lambo post

I'm currently in my 5th year in Finance. I'm a Credit Analyst II. Junior level, good money, but still a lower rung on the ladder. For me, my limiting belief is that I haven't developed the social skills necessary to take me to the next level. I'm too much of an X's and O's type. I need to show my personality more and take more risks. I need to get more organized, more detailed with my notes. I should be going to toastmaster meetups, attending Manager conferences, networking, volunteering. Putting myself out there. Taking full advantage of company paid continuing education. I've spent the last 3 years dreaming of being my own boss but my C- grade work ethic is evident that I'm not ready yet to run a successful business. Sometimes you have to be brutally honest with yourself before you can move to where you really want to be.

TL;DR

What's holding you back brother?

Are you content at your current level and don't want the additional stress?

Are you concerned that they don't want you at the top? Or that you don't belong?

You don't want to be called a c00n, or less than a man for working hard for someone else?

Other limiting beliefs or just lazy?

you can make director money without the title. dont be an idiot chasing after a title.
