Management takes a lot more involvement and sometimes less flexibility.
I'm a web developer with a few PM duties, and I like it this way. I have the flexibility leave the office if I have to and not be responsible for what anyone else is doing.

This is super helpful, especially with a kid on the way

you can make director money without the title. dont be an idiot chasing after a title.
This thread isn't about chasing titles or money but more about work ethic and belief systems. I known ppl who rise to the top on in corporate them went on to be successful entrepreneurs, I know ppl who came out of high school with natural entrepreneurial spirit who became successful. But you rarely see shytty unmotivated employees go on to launch successful businesses.

Yeah that's the one thing people aren't mentioning.

Work Live balance for any Director, VP, C-Level position is shyt. It doesn't matter if you work for a small company or a big one. Its still a large sacrifice

The paperwork the amount of HR related paperwork you have to do to be a manager. My buddy is a manager and he always tells me how shytty it is, the meetings he has to attend. I go in around nine and leave early, he can't do the same. Oh and the pay? I'm about at the same salary level without the headaches. I'll keep my position.

I don't want to be a manager because I don't like dealing with idiots. I don't see what's so hard about showing up to work, doing your job, then going home especially when you do the same damn tasks everyday.

I'll just stay in engineering where I can assess a problem, recommend a solution, and if you don't implement it then I don't give a shyt.

Plus I can come and go as I please as long as the work gets done.

I was a manager once and I hated watching over lazy ass people. All coming to me with these problems they could deal with themselves but then you realize... they can't deal with it so you have to carry that shyt for them along with your own shyt. They'll never be on a competent level either. There's more below average people out there than average and above. I had to spent my days trying to keep them from drowning.

Oh and the constant calling, no matter the time of day.

Nah :donotlike: Some are built for that, I'm not one of them.

the thread title :dead:

the average age of posters here vs. the average age of corporate CEOs

the decades of work it could take plus the politics involved in becoming partner, managing director, etc... before you grind that out for ages and play politics again to get the C level nod

good intentions in the topic and thread but :dahell: at the same time

That's a good point. I report directly to the Regional Director since we don't have a Manager. He does travel a lot and work long hours but in our slow season he'll take a month off take his family to Europe nshyt.

Is that really worth it though? Constantly travelling, doing meetings non stop, always on your phone with people asking shyt and constantly working without any breaks. fukk that. The title and pay increase isn't worth the hassle.

Yeah the travel aspect has got to be rough. I'm traveling about once or twice a month now to attend meetings and summits. Its already getting annoying. I couldn't imagine doing that once or twice a week :wow:
