If it were only that simple. I'm doing better than the majority of folks I know that tried to start businesses. Now if you are in the minority that succeed, life can be a breeze. But the majority fail.

Yep most business folks fail multiple times before really getting a business that works.

Also a lot of folks try to reinvent the wheel when doing businesses. So they have to invest large sums of capital to get it going.

Bc I'm in sales and it's never worth being in management if your good at sales. I make more than my manager and in two years I'll be outpacing my managers manager.

I got people in my region that been in the roll for 20 yrs with a huge book and are making more than the President by working 20 hr weeks.

What are good websites for contract work jobs?

Depends on what you looking for. Many engineers I know use aerotek or Kelly services(if they are commercial) or they just go online (specially DoD folks) hit up recruiters on linkedin.

Many staffing agency recruiters are on linkedin.....jokers stay hitting me up. This is really where all the job hunting is going to.

For like 30 bucks a month you can get the linkedin upgrade that allows you to send inmails to folks. You can hit up the staffing agency recruiters this way and they will hit you back...cause they have to get so many resumes quota wise to feed to their clients (companies).

I'm in the Architecture/Building Construction industry, more in the technical side of things. So you're saying hitting up recruiters on linkedin is the best way to go? I feel like indeed.com is becoming limited for me, not sure about linkedin because I think they go for ppl with a lot of experience.

Preach. I love sales because you essentially write your own pay check.

Being in a management role in the Federal Government is a nightmare I want no parts of.

That GS-15/SES director check look nice but the political bullshyt that come with it ain't worth it. Just give me a non supervisory GS-13 position where I can telework from a low cost of living area and I'll be set.

Yep homie this is the best way. Sign up for the 30 buck linked in account version. This gives you the ability to send inmail to folks you are not connected to and also you can see the salary range for jobs.

So let's say you see a job with a company like UTC (they have a building division) on their website in say Houston.

You go on linkedin and search for UTC recruiters in Houston. Then when you find some try to connect to them and send them an inmail stating your experience and background (also mention the position and it's req number). Ask them if you could speak with them about the position.

Do that to as many recruiters as you can find for the company and or location where you see jobs you want.

Also hit up the staffing agency recruiters....they will almost always connect to you and or answer your inmail you send them. You can just search staffing agency recruiters in the linkedin search box. That should give you some hits.

Just hit up as many as you can and you should get some opportunities dealing with them. shyt is much better than indeed. Seems as indeed isnt getting as many job posting as it did years ago.

As a young bro getting ready to jump into the work world full time I appreciate the honesty in these posts

Yeah man we got to pass this knowledge around. This is one of my biggest beefs.....folks do not talk to people about this or explain how the process works.

Man you can't even find books or people on the internet who are honest about the process.

Doing a good job at work builds your reputation. Not only do Managers see it but your coworkers see it as well. This is how your professional network is built. Always be willing to help others around you and keep a good attitude. Your money doesn't grow in a linear path during your career, your salary could literally double but typically you have to switch companies for that. I hit a wall at my last company. I was working there 4 years, pay was terrible. This older white dude worked with our department until he landed a VP position elsewhere. We got cool in the short time he was there. On his last day he told me to send him my resume. He gave it to his wife and she gave it to her boss. I got called for an interview that wasn't even an interview. I basically already had the job. We negotiated a salary and it was damn near double what I was making before. Changed my whole situation up in less than a week. So my point is, get in there do your best, keep a good attitude(but always stand firm on your principal)and the money will come.

Somewhere tropic...
to move up in the corporate world you gunna have to kiss ass, regardless of race...
I ain't never kiss ass. shyt I left my last job because I wouldn't kiss ass. I lucked up with this lick I guess with a boss I naturally get along with plus I proved my value to the company by producing good work and being innovative. Trust, I was held down for years, by my own people.
