This is always the fallacy.

"A progressive can't win," while a centrist is like 0-for-the last 30 years.
But a more centrist Dem isn’t winning either.
Are y'all finally moving off of the position that Dems are losing in these places because they aren't far enough left and finally admitting that you just want candidates who align with your political ideologies?

Dems lose in these places because of demographics and skeleton organization structures. State parties were destroyed during the Obama era. The Koch heads flooded the country with Tea Party organization in the midwest and southern areas.

Of course we want people who align with our political ideologies. Even better when they're black and rooted in community. Those type of candidates are important because as I said before, they can build a foundation even while losing in a race that the Dems cant win.

Cause the other approach, the DSCC parachuting in, backing a candidate before the primary, and that candidate flaming out in the primary or the general, doesn't leave any foundations in place.

I'm not sure that applies here. :francis:

Progressives do better when they abandon that close above race talk. In fact it seems progressives fare better when they are in tune with and speak out about the social issues (identity politics:wow:) affecting their constituency.

:blessed:

Sounds like scapegoating if we agree that many of these candidates aren't going to win regardless based on demographics :hubie:

In a state like Tennessee, does it really matter though? I mean, you had a former Dem Gov run for US Senate and he's no progressive and he took an L to Marsha Blackburn.

Its true progressives don't have the infrastructure to even play in Senate general election races in blue states... much less in redder or purple states to make an informed declaration that they can never win.

However, considering that redder states have weaker Dem party structures, less Dem machine politics, I think there's an opening for progressives in settings like that. Dem electeds in the KY House and some figures who were elected statewide in Kentucky saw the energy Booker brought and that is important for laying foundations.

Mackler was backed by the DSCC and other traditional Dem electeds/orgs and I don't know who was running that campaign but they probably were stealing money.

Robin Kimbrough Hayes is another black progressive woman who was running and she got 27% of the vote. :leon:

Bradshaw winning while only raising $8,400 (I had to check the FEC records now to even make sure) is absolutely stunning. How the hell does this happen :dahell:

Yup, in TN it really doesn't matter. Federal politics here are so polarized and the right here has gone full retard that "moderate" dems are essentially seen as "progressives" anyway unless you can find the one in a million trump-like doppelganger who can appeal to some of the right.

In TN if you can pretty much dominate Memphis you'll have a great chance at winning the dem primary in a statewide race, which is why Mackler lost. He might of had a slightly better chance in the nov elections but not really much. It's really all about bringing out as many non-voters as you can and hope for the best.

I voted for Hayes:manny:

I highly doubt that she'll beat John Gillespie in that majority Republican district.
