Imagine a 'legitimately', democratically elected candidate refused office after winning a general election. It directly contravenes the will of the people and would show that they are powerless in democratic process. You think people are protesting now? That's the thing. If Dems want to scrap EC then win in all levels of government. Simple as that.

For now republicans will never scrap it, they dont get much of the popular vote in elections but have a chance to win the WH with EC.
