Puff easy

He defined an era

Jay was never the hottest nikka in any given year that mattered and cheated his way to the position he’s in today.

The nikka finally got hot damn near at 30 which was unheard of back then, and spent his classic years beefing with nikkas 10 years younger and way less mature than him.

Jay NEVER had a year where he was the hottest rapper.

Puff 97-99 was unstoppable. That's not even bringing up his work in the 2000s or his work with Biggie in the mid 90s

“Unstoppable” is false considering he had fallen out of favor in a major way by 98-99 but 97 was without the doubt the year

Jay was popular in the rap world but outside of rap nobody gave a shyt about him.
When he got with Beyonce he became a mainstream star.

Puffy was the bigger star when they were dating.
she end up surpassing him though
How is a nikka who goes 5 times platinum not “mainstream” :dead: :dead:

I can't choose. Both of them are too important to the culture. Puff dominated the 90s, Jay dominated late 90s, 2000s. You take out Puff, and that affects Biggie, Mase, Lil Kim, Total, 112, all those records Puff had in the early 2000s. You take out Jay and you take out Kanye, Beanie Sigel/State Prop, Camron/Dipset since they're all Rocafella products.

These two alone make Puff the more iconic personality in hip-hop, he dropped less than half of Jay's catalog but got henchmen that did OD numbers with fewer releases than him:
Puff might be responsible for Jay's career through Big.

good ass post, you took the opposite of what I was saying
but made a very strong point here .. I cant deny it

When you look back in history it’s gonna be Jay. His dealings with NBA and NFL, Bey, his collab albums, etc…it’s tough because Diddy is such a music mogul but Jay is more iconic public figure imo.

he's not, the vast majority of people know jay as a rapper married to bey - the average american doesn't know about a NFL deal or any of his business dealings...i wouldnt know about half his shyt post 2010 if not for posting on thecoli
