Like Lupe just said, he's a better lyricist but can't make better songs. At the end of the day the finished product is what matters. If they both want to pass out their verses typed out on paper for us to read....Lupe got this.

This idea that Lupe is Canibus and some sort of rapper who’s songs translate better to text is a complete mischaracterization.

Yes he’s more lyrically dense (than most), No his music isn’t as palatable as Kendrcks but Tetsuo & Youth is far beyond whatever people are trying to imply by making that comparison.

Kendrick vs. Lupe is akin to CB4 to Fear of a black hat.

Both classic, similar theme, CB4 had more star power and commercial success. FOBH has wayyyyy more depth/nuance and not just for the sake of being the “smarter” movie on paper.

Lupe and Kendrick are not the same. They are literally two different rappers in all aspects even in their storytelling and content its different. Lupe goes about talking on video games, samurais tying them in metaphors and entendres to social and concious topics. - Gotta Eat, Adoration of the magi, Sledoms, etc
Kendrick is more straightforward and introspetive talking about his life and people he knows - SIng about me, i, Maad city, etc

Lupe hardly talks about himself that much when you look at it like kendrick, and kendrick outside of blacker the berry has hardly covered social topics let alone done political topics he never has done one like Lupe.

they really aint the same. Its why i can never understand this comparison of them. Kendrick is not "lupe if he would..."
They are completely different rappers with diff content. The things Lupe does would not have made him as palatable as Kendrick is.
Content alone proves that in the difference in what they talk about let alone rap style and artistry. which outside of being mainstream. Kendrick is not objectively better at Lupe at all.

out of all those projects, Lupe has prolly 2-3 tracks talking or being introspective in the rap style way of Kendrick or anyone like thayt
whereas Kendricks main and primary rapping is mainly on self-reflecting content on himself, his friends, compton, etc.( Money trees, art of peer pressure, etc)

Lupes content is much different and more just Lyrical straifght concious rap/storytelling or commentary mixxed in with some theme either way its not about him but some other person or thing(fictional, real, etc) - I.e. Down, Gotta eat, SHOES etc

this is why ill never understand this comparison between these two. they are very much different. both in skill, artistry style , focuses, and even content

Lupe has highly praised albums and hits. Hes not known for just having just been hyped and dissapointed right when he hit like Bus

Strong music is what he has and its why he has left a impact having inflfuenced rappers like Ab soul, Meek, Schoolboy, etc. Its not niche just because you dont like it. you sound asinine thinking that.

Kendricks music is remembered because of recency and he has a bigger machine, not saying this to just have excuses but its fact. Lupe's music came prior and he didnt have a machine like kendrick has with interscope.

and lyricism still matters and its what a good portion of fans still care about. Your just saying this because Kendrick undoubtely loses on this end

Food & Liqour and The Cool isn't niche music. This was before Lupe got too focused on making every lyric a quadruple entendre and making these over-elaborate metaphors on every song. Back then Lupe could do less with more and create music that was intelligent but entertaining, in many ways those two albums did go on to influence the artists you mentioned, and Kendrick himself probably.

But no one but message board lyric nerds are getting inspired by anything he's done since. He's gone too far in one direction with his recent music and it's just too much for most people. This is Canibus doing 10 minute Poet Laureate tracks. It's completely self-indulgent.
