You realize this mentality is EXACTLY what fukked up his momentum, right?
If they had let him build up some credibility as a US, IC, or even WH Champion, he might not be in this position now.
But instead they thrust him directly into the main event scene when he wasn't ready and it was already too crowded, so to protect the storylines they already had set up they had to sacrifice him at the altar for The Shield.

For a grand total of a month. So what? Did he stay over? Can he work at the level of even the typical upper-mid card hoss? Could he have sustained anything without fizzling out and/or killing somebody in-ring?
IT WAS A MONTH, PEOPLE.
It was only a month because they screwed him over. I said it before he should not have lost until WM and he could have become a heel or tweener. And Aqua is right, he was sacrificed for the Shield who have never been over enough to justify their push.
