Guess you could say both
if they are from another country or support a specific team i would just follow whats going on in that league

if they are just generally into soccer, the main ones people follow in the US are the Premier League and Champions League (this is just all the best teams in Europe playing each other). People will also casually watch Real Madrid and Barcelona when they play (this is the Ohio State/Michigan or Yankees/Red Sox of soccer). But otherwise, people just follow the other leagues if they are a fan of a team in it

That's not true in the least. Every one of those sports except football has the same or very similar structure in every country in the world. The issue is that the US has the "centre of the universe" frame of mind and as a result think nothing exists out of its borders. Im not having a. go at you, but that is where your frame of reference is coming from. Every one of those. sports has their own "top professional" leagues. The NBA, MLB, and NHL are all leagues specific to the US. It just so happens the best talent goes to the NBA, MLB, etc. But Brazil, Argentina, France, Sweden, Thailand, Phillipines, etc all have their own equivalent version of thos.

the rest of the world knows the NBA is the best league in the world. the overseas fans are staying up to watch the NBA or waking up hella early in the morning. of course they have top proffesional leagues but they're not a global brand so it's not a centre of universe frame of mind, it's literally the truth. the best talent goes there so that's the standard. those top players overseas play in those leagues because they can't make it to the NBA and if they did, they would. there's a reason why all these euro league mvps come here even at the age of 30+ and end up going back because they're not getting mins. to say the NBA is US specific is ridiculous when every league, fan and player looks at it as the pinnacle. kids in europe, Asia, Africa grow up wanting to be in the NBA. that's the reality of it. these other proffesional leagues exist not to rival the NBA but to give alternative options to players who can't make it. you think there's a debate on what the top league is like there is in soccer?

Yup. Check other countries and their setups and you find national cups and continental competitions for most sports. Like Israeli basketball teams playing Euroleague and Eurocup

As I said..... your mindset is US-centric and you are too self centred to see it. What you just said applies to the Premier League in Emgland for soccer. Followed a close second by a few other european leagues. I LITERALLY said the best talent in those sports go to the NBA, NHL, MLB because it is the top league. The league is still a bloody US league. No cities outside US cities (except for the Canadian who get a special dispensation) are a part of the league. This was not a discussion about talent levels or popularity.... it was about OP wanting to understand the structure of the soccer pyramid in the world. The same type of pyramid which applies to basket all as. well.......

Do the teams from the different leagues play each other?
Yes. So if you win your domestic league there is another tier where you play the champions. of the other domestic leagues on that continent (real soccer heads, leave it at that I know all the technacalities, we trying to make it simple right now. ) . And then above that, the winners of each continent play eachother. This is for clubs. The same idea can be applied for national teams as well.

Nobody gaf about nba outside of mega stars like LeBron and even then the average person outside of USA knows who he is but not who he plays for

yeah in those leagues listed in europe the top teams of each league qualify for champions league, europa league, europa conference league and then will play

as well remember the fifa club world cup ths summer?
Could an MLS all-star team compete on the world stage?

Why does it seem like Americans women soccer is more advanced than men's?

Does Canada produce better soccer players than the US?
