Deal was definitely being discussed, if the teams had agreed to it and Charlotte pulled out at the last minute than that would have leaked. There's no reason for someone to hang on to that rumor and not drop it or address it at the time of the draft or right after. That a Boston fan/writer dropped this well after the fact, when KP is balling and that he managed to throw Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan under the bus while propping up the C's front office (did he even name the fourth team?) makes it all the more sketchy. Phil has outright stated that Gaines convinced him on KP and he knew it was the pick. They even brought Melo out to watch his workout; why bother if they were set on trading down? There were also rumors about trading back with Denver, so it's not like that Celtics deal blowing up would stop a trade down for Kaminsky.

The plan A was Okafor falling, after that, it was pretty much Porzingis unless there was a great deal out there. And there's no evidence that Phil wanted Kaminsky MORE than porzingis. In fact, the best evidence against it... is that he didn't take him.
