Maybe we can trade him for a low second round pick and a nobody? Or something along those lines, considering everyone is going to be overpaid next year and someone may find some value in his contact if they just want a veteran shooting guard to come off the bench

Just trying to read the tea leaves, I think the fact that they've moved him to the bench already even though Sasha is his replacement is a sign that Phil will want to keep AA as a sixth man if the opt-in happens. That's a straight up guess though. I'm pretty sure we could move his contract though, he's a nice offensive role player on a fair contract that'll expire next year at worst. A lot of the talk with the new cap space is on the FA market, but I could see a lot of interesting trade options opening up with teams able to eat contracts or others looking to move contracts so they can chase combinations of players.

You realize the cap jumps in 2017 also right? That means you take the cheaper PG/SG/plus a back-up PF...have cap space in 2017...and have you've got your first rounders going forward...

It looks good but I doubt both Dwill and AA are here next year. The might both opt in but I feel D-Will is damn near guaranteed to opt out.

I disagree. Last year, he opted out of his player option (coming off a poor season) for relatively the same amount of money he got from the Knicks annually this year. He's had a more efficient season this year than he did last year in Portland and Denver. Say what you want his inconsistencies and selfish play, but based on his salary, Afflalo has been solid for this team. The problem is the Knicks have probably asked too much of him as secondary scorer when in reality he should probably be a 6th man off the bench for most teams.[/QUOTE]

That's true, I've been mainly working out the offseason by assuming the lowest possible cap number for the team to work with; but I think AA and D-Will both have a decent or better shot to opt out. I'd really like AA opting out (honestly, we could probably replace him with a Gerald Henderson for cheaper without losing much) and D-will opting in; it's possible but probably a longshot.
