Production team like Tribe?? Watch the docu. Tip produced the bulk of the first 3 Tribe records. The nikka produced most if not all of Low End Theory
:wow:

It was only on the last 2 records that the production collective The Ummah (Dilla, Tip, etc.) produced the tracks. Before that it was mostly Tip.

Thanks for the response...

So what did ali shaheed do on which tracks on the first joint if anything at all?

Always been a fan of Tip. IMO - Large Pro, Pete,Premier and Tip were modern day jazz cats. They approached their music in that way, but also their relationships always felt like they were always learning from each other on some Quincy Jones/ Ray Charles shyt

His style these days is interesting because he doesn't seem to have a trademark sound as much as he had back in the day.

Maybe the last thing I heard him on was Pusha T's 'FIFA' :jbhmm:

Got to be one of the GOAT producers on the mic though...

You would expect music insiders at the time to know and reach out to whoever was the creative force behind Tribes shyt. So if Tip was getting the calls...

I'm not saying Tip wasnt part of the greatness behind the beats he helped make, I'm just saying we don't really know the extent. People have gotten much bigger with less work and talent put in.

He's in my top 5 producers and rappers of all time list tbh. He truly is a GOAT.

The versatility :wow:

In hindsight though, a lot of the tracks produced by The Ummah was probably mainly Dilla and Ali Shaheed. Ali Shaheed produced on Brown Sugar and a lot of the music they were pumping out at the time had that same vibe, especially the Lucy Pearl stuff. Got Til It's Gone was definitely a Dilla track.

So Ali was mostly doing R&B type stuff?
While Q-Tip's solo productions had that hard MM sound to them?
I think it's pretty clear then who was behind the classic Tribe sound...

I think that's definitely the case. Tip's beats have always had hard hitting drums.

During The Ummah phase, the liner notes tell you exactly who did what. Look for J. Yancey or Jonathan Davis/Kamaal Fareed.

It's all there.
