Common is 4th on my GOAT list.

Exceptional lyricist, I mean just look at Resurrection.

He also has one of the best bodies of work in hip-hop. 3 classics in Resurrection, LWFC and Be. Then you have the amazing One Day It'll All Make Sense, and really underrated albums like Finding Forever and his debut Can I Borrow a Dollar? If you cannot at least respect his contributions to hip-hop, then you don't deserve to listen to the genre.

I always say I'm quite annoyed that the Stay Schemin/Sweet beef clouded his album release because The Dreamer/Believer was an incredible album. Some amazing records on there I remember that shyt vividly.

Finding Forever too :ohlawd:

@mobbinfms

I can give you a definitive top 5 but I'll try 10 as well.

1. Ghostface Killah
2. Jay-Z
3. Ice Cube
4. Common
5. Redman
6. Big Boi
7. Rakim
8. Kool G Rap
9. Scarface
10. Idk who to put here, maybe MF DOOM

Inb4 all the salt over no Nas or Pac or Biggie or whatever. I value body of work/discography more than anything else so I think my list reflects that. Because you can talk about lyrical and stylistic preferences all you want, but what do you have to show for it? That's what matters to me.

Or isn't just some shyt people say just because it sounds good? I fukk with some of shyt like The Light, The Corner his guest verse on Respiration off Blackstar but by in large everytime I hear this nikka his shyt doesn't move me. Not saying Common Is wack but everytime I see nikkas refer to him as some hip hop Legend I pull a :patrice:.Is common a legend because he stuck around for 20 years on some Kevin Willis shyt or am I missing something? Maybe some old head can school me.

I feel you. I used to think Common was corny back in the day until I actually matured and did my research. The vast majority of his greatest work came out 2000 and prior.

Some examples are "6th Sense", which is already posted.

Try these 5 tracks:

Common - Resurrection (Large Pro remix). Dope ass beat, great flow and the whole thing is one giant quotable. Great video too. Epitome of 'real hip hop'.

Common - 1999. INCREDIBLE beat, and Common slays it. Also full of quotables.

Common - Invocation. A different style. You might fukk with this.

Common - Communism. DOPE beat, and a dream for wordplay fans. Peep how he uses "com" to drop crazy rhymes.

and finally Common - I Used to Love HER. super classic, and probably his most known track.

If you don't like any of those tracks, Common aint for you.
