Black people are not monolithic and we have a diverse group of talented people. Maybe it’s my surroundings and nikkas i be around, I’m from the Bronx and nikkas in the trenches not watching none of the shyt you linked. But again maybe it’s my surroundings that’s giving me this “false consensus effect” where I’m overestimating my experiences and thinking everybody the same

I’m Just asking questions nikkas could tone down the weirdo suspect c00n shyt

insecure, atlanta, blackish are three of the biggest and most acclaimed shows on tv and are all tailored around the black experience

like someone said in this thread you go on netflix and look up black shows and its odee options that arent involved w street shyt

if everyone in your environment is consuming that type of media thats a different thing from you saying that the only options for the black experience have to do with violence

Because it’s what cacs love to see and 1 of the only topics black people are willing to support these days. Same story in music with hip hop.
The idea that it's what cacs like to see is laughable.

Look at rap music. Conscious and positive rappers are given the "corny" label these days by other black people. How many times have I been in the booth, or even in real life, and heard nikkas say shyt like "the streets don't bump no Kendrick he's for white folks" while slurping off genuine menaces to society who terrorize their communities like King Von. :mjlol:

BMF, Power, Power Book 2, Raising Kanaan, Snowfall, Godfather of Harlem, Top Boy, etc…. How come the only depictions of the black experience is drug dealing, gang banging, and the streets?

Let me say depictions of black male masculinity, every other show is a black LGBT or feminized version of black masculinity or safe negro
There's other depictions of Black Culture if you care to look.

I’m just asking questions my boy, i see nikkas gravitating towards these kind of show’s way more than any of the other shows you just mentioned

imma street nikka myself and I’m not gunna go into detail because it’s going to come off a certain way but I ain’t say all of that

Hmm...maybe its just the people that you associate with... Its the opposite on my end.

There's variety out there. Ironically, the people who complain the most about there being too many shows about drug dealing, gang banging, and the streets are the main ones watching those types of shows on the low.

The Land That Time Forgot
Drug dealer and gang life cultural worship is driving this UNPRECEDENTED television focus on Black male criminal life.

Starz and Epix revised their programming strategies based on heavy Black viewer and subscriber support of crime content.

Fred Sanford operated a junkyard...Cliff Huxtable was a medical doctor...George Jefferson owned a dry cleaners chain...Carl Winslow was a police officer.

Successful Black shows the past featured more diverse (and legal) roles for Black men than what is being promoted today.

‘Godfather Of Harlem’ Renewed For Season 2 By Epix
While Epix does not release viewership data, Godfather of Harlem, boosted by strong word of mouth, has been a breakout hit, becoming the network’s top series. Epix President Michael Wright revealed some ratings data in announcing the drama’s renewal.

“Godfather of Harlem season one was a remarkable success, tripling previous viewership numbers for the network and earning acclaim from both critics and viewers alike,” said Wright. “We couldn’t wait to reunite with Chris, Paul, Forest and the team at ABC Signature to continue telling this compelling and extremely relevant story.”
