what u trying to say?? A young chocolate black woman like myself dont belong in Lincoln Park :disnikka:

Ive been staying in this area for 2 months now and I see a few black people..mostly women.

No, I was stating an observation I made.

If you live there, congratulations good for you, it's a nice area. :ehh:

If youre out and about, then I've probably seen you walking around already and just don't know it (and vice versa), I'm over there almost every day.:manny:

The price sounds right for what you have. Fresh, out of college, single people live around there, usually professionals or the like.

The thread starter would probably like that area the most. Bar Louie = :blessed:
Dave n Busters = :blessed:
North Ave Beach = :blessed:

I JUST moved from Streeterville. Trying to save money. When I lived here before in 2007, I made awesome money. Had a condo at the Playboy HQ Building on Erie and Lakeshore then moved to River Plaza at 405 Wabash. Then when I came back to Chicago in winter 2011 I didn't make money like that anymore. I moved back to River Plaza but the Trump was finished next door and stole all the river/city views. :camby: I have a short term lease at "Luxury@1130" on Michigan and Roosevelt. If I stay in Chicago this fall, I'll probably move by Belmont or Wicker Park...maybe those condos on Chicago and California.

yea seriously i was ready to die in nyc earlier this year and it was only 25 degrees with no wind... and i had hella layers on. again, WTF # -10 degrees.
fukk. that might be the deal breaker :sadcam: i really liked chicago (in the summer) the last 2 times i've been there :aicmon:

i might be taking these "low of 55 degrees" winter for granted out here :leon:
This past winter was horrible too.

the only reason is the shytty winters imo

they fukkin suck

aside from that ur all good in comparing

u prolly make less overall in chi cuz standard of living is lower

most people here have a saving money mentality but if ur young and ain't on that you should move here if you can handle the cold cuz it's cheaper than SF

i was in chicago over the weekend and :banderas:

everyone hears about the crime/violence but i didnt see anything to make me feel like i was in danger the entire time i was there. i bought some jordans from a ruvilla in the southside and didnt see anyone with :demonic: intentions

the nightlife is great, downtown is immaculate compared to dirty ass SF or NYC, the housing is ridiculously cheap

why aren't people moving there in droves?
1500$ can get me a 1 bedroom in a luxury highrise in the heart of downtown. that same 1500$ in SF = sharing a 400sq foot studio with a bunch of hipsters in SF. wtf.

the brutal winters can't be the only thing keeping people away.
someone from chicago tell me why i shouldnt move, and why i should stay in cali :sadcam:

sounds like you answered your own question. go head and make that move.

Let me clarify: To live "well" downtown, and fully enjoy everything it has to offer, you need to make that amount.

You lived in Streeterville making 75k, that's what ~$1,300/week after taxes?

Where'd you live in Streeterville? Building, floor, and floor plan?

Aqua building starts upper $200's, Randolph street high rises are the same. The 777 building is on the cheap side, but you have no deck or balcony.

You get a spacious 1bedroom or a shoebox studio?

You drop the $20k for that garage parking space, or you use a parking lot?

You had a condo? How'd those monthly HOA fees look? Good buildings run $350+/month, easy.

You live downtown you pay premiums for everything.

I originally thought the OP was probably in Hyde Park thinking he was in Roseland, walking around like "Hmmm this isn't so bad"

this is the truth. but 75K a year ain't gonna make you 1300 a week after taxes. but the problem with downtown is everything is so expensive. so all the basic shyt u need like food and household supplies cost much more. plus it cost more to go out down there as well if ur gonna kick it in the area :yeshrug:

If you throw the federal govt the middle finger for the fiscal year and claim the exemption, (thus not giving them an interest free loan out of your own pocket) you will see 1,300/week on your paycheck if you earn $75,000 in Illinois.

But you still have to pay them later once you figure out what you owe. And even then you could come out ahead.

LOL, well u are still gonna pay taxes be it sooner or later. so 75k does not give u $1300 a week after taxes when it's all said and done.
