Forget that dikkey is 38, and that he’s a knuckle-baller. Consider his performance — not just last season, when he won the National League Cy Young Award, but the past three years, when he averaged more than 200 innings per season and produced a 2.95 ERA.
This isn’t a fluke, folks. If dikkey was a conventional thrower — and yes, a bit younger — few would question this trade. dikkey’s strikeout rate increased in each of the past three seasons. His hit rate decreased, and his walk rate remained stable and low.
He’s athletic, he logs innings, he throws strikes. A rival executive puts it best, saying that dikkey has “found something.” The Jays are banking on him continuing his success — and likely on a below-market contract. Remember, they won a similar bet on right fielder Jose Bautista, whom they signed to a five-year, $65 million extension after a breakout season.
D’Arnaud, 23, and Syndergaard, 20, no doubt are talented, the Jays’ Nos. 1 and 3 prospects, according to Baseball America. But remember Justin Smoak? Jesus Montero? All of those other can’t-miss prospects who supposedly were too good to trade? Well, stuff happens. Not always, but often enough.
D’Arnaud has suffered a number of injuries — he had back trouble in 2010, suffered two concussions in ’11, tore a knee ligament last season. If he stays healthy, he should develop into a potential All-Star, if not quite Buster Posey or Matt Wieters. But the Jays evidently are comfortable with J.P. Arencibia and Josh Thole, whom they would acquire in this trade.
AA has seen and now raised Jerry DiPoto's '11 offseason. I think TD is a great return but there is somthing sad about the mets trading there only bright spot in years reeks of Tom sever to the reds
Nah. not quite. Seaver was a cornerstone to a World Championship and a pennant. Seaver also wasn't 38 years old at the time. If anything, letting Jose Reyes walk away last year was similar to the Seaver trade.
He's playing 90 - 95 games in domes(Rogers Centre and Tropicana Field), he excels in dry conditions, he'll be straight.

I hear what you are saying @Miggs . But you know what, I have been to over a 150 games since Joe touched them all(shyt I still some what remember the games I went to at the EX for fukk sakes). I do not give a fukk about our batting line up in 2016. Sure your doubts are a 100% correct, but like I said I don't give a fukk at this point.
AA has pushed the Jays Chips all in. Honestly if this does not work out, how bad are we really off compared to the last 20 years?
Man fukk it, I am all in with AA. At the very least I will not be pissed about paying my Rogers bill till June this year..![]()
Yup @Miggs we haven't made the playoffs in nearly 20 years
I've been a Fan for years and seen can't miss prospects like Alex Gonzales Aquino Lopez, Jacob brumfield, Travis snider etx
I want to win now the jays are still stacked with minor league pitching, plus there's always fa if anything
I was nervous there might be a snag in their negotiations. Now, as for the Mets, hat’s off to Sandy Alderson for working the market (twice in a year and half) to end up getting one of the top pitching prospects in baseball (Zach Wheeler) and again to get a top hitting prospects (D’Arnaud) all for just two players (with expiring contracts) in their late 30s. His goal is to build a new foundation, a new core of players to help create and sustain a winning franchise over the next five to 10 years, and these two kids are going to help that a lot.

Lmao @ dikkey being beloved

It's true though. I was at the game where he won #20 at home, and there were grown men in the crowd all
The game was over and nobody wanted to leave. You know how easy it is to get people to leave Citi Field during a game? They couldn't do it that day. He was getting a standing ovation every time the order turned over because they didn't know if he was gonna come back.
