you had 2 types of R&B heads. The ones who represented the era before hiphop, who then liked the slick sound (non-new jack swing)

that began to disappear by the time hiphop soul took over in the earlier 90's and the new school type that grew up on R&B but then went to hiphop and then later were into new jackswing/hiphop soul.

Understanding the foundation is key. Whether it's crate digging or your parents record collection, that's how this shyt started

Oddly enough, todays youth has access to everything in a mouse click but stay making generic FL Studio stock VST type shyt that they learned in a "How to do stuttering hi-hats" YouTube tutorial

    Breh...

Look at Jodeci, Montell Jordan, KC and JoJo, Immature, Joe, Tyrese, B2K, Jon B, Avant, Usher,...

    Compared to "R&B" singers today...

Bryson Tiller, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, etc...

    Drastic difference

Its easy to weed them out. Play some black music non hip hop and they hate it.

:wow: Great thread. I've been talking about this with some of my people. What I've really touched on is what you said about groove and swing.
It's been almost completely replaced by robotic, on the grid programming which I like here and there. But it's wild when you hear Hip Hop fans say they
can't rock with any beats without 808 kicks and rolling hi hats. One of the most important aspects of the creation Hip Hop is breakbeats which makes
the drumset one of the most important instruments. But some of these cats really don't want to hear actual drums :wtf: I was just listening to It's Just Begun by The Jimmy Castor Bunch. The groove of that joint is :ohlawd:.
Just makes your body move in a completely different way

I hate 808 kicks with a burning passion I wish it could go away already, It's a shame that the G-funk synths died early around 97. These cats are lazy c*nts that are content pushing the same microwave garbage, it's crazy how the current consumers aren't bored with hearing the same basic drums.
