Oregon state fair 2002. I was in Oregon helping to take care of my grandpa after he got out of the hospital. A friend of mine in high school gave me a bunch of burned cds and Ashantis album was one of them. My older cousin was also in Oregon going to osu, but during the summer and winter breaks she would also help with the grandparents. So she goes through my cds and sees the Ashanti album and asks me to trade for ready to die.(easiest trade in the damn world)side effect of the trade is that she was bumping that shyt all the fukking time. So somehow she finds out that Ashanti is performing at the Oregon state fair in Salem, and she buys tickets for her and I, excited as hell. I'm initially of the mind of fukk no, I'm not going and I told my grandma this, and she pretty much guilted me into going by telling me that my cousin payed all that money for tickets for the both of us and she would be hurt if I didn't go. Made perfect sense so I sucked it up and went to the concert. A few mistakes were made. First, I don't normally wear white shoes because I'm not the type to keep clean, but we were trying to look fly(in hindsight, for who?) So I wore a pair of clean white kicks. Second, at the time salem Keizer was very white and what few black people there were got all their fashion tips from mtv if that. So we go down to this concert and we are clearly over dressed. So her concert is being held by the local hip hop radio station, but it looks like they were unprepared with how....hayseedy the event was gonna look. The white people in attendance were half there for Ashanti and half I guess just happy to be at a concert. So it becomes time for the event, and she's like 45 minutes late. I'm a little pissed, but I'm keeping it together for my cousins excitement. She finally does show up, and does 4 songs. Some being the duets with ja rule. And on the last damn song the track skips along with her vocals and she hits us with "oops". I'm having a hard time hiding my anger at this point and my cousins disappointment didn't help things either. At this point, this white boy comes along and hard steps on my foot. Normally im not one to go off over something like that, but the fact that he looked at me like "how dare I be in his presence set me the fukk off. So I stood up getting ready to deal with this fukker and his girl comes along with some sense and grabs him from behind and apologizes for him. So now, I'm angry and overdressed for a concert at the fair and my cousin is embarrassed because that was a wack ass show and she was so excited for it. Part of me was like "I knew this was gonna be garbage." But I also care about my cousin so I was pretty much reassuring her the rest of the night that she couldn't have known it would be like this, and she would have never tried this shyt at the la country fair or even the orange county fair. So it's been fukk Ashanti ever since then.
