How Hip-Hop Edged Grittier R&B Singers Out of the Mainstream

:patrice: Reading this article it seems like music and radio executive's are just making excuses for not creating a new black R&b superstar.I mean if white artists like Adele can sell millions of records doing R&b type music, I don't see why they feel the general public won't support R&b music.

there's some key points in this article, but mostly made by artists and producers interviewed

rolling stone is the one that came up with this "lower register" bullshyt, whatever that means :mjlol:

these young cats and dudes in their 30's still trying to be teenagers can say what they want about the 90's and old school

but we made music FOR US. we put lyrics in songs that were specifically for black folks:

"you're my ebony queen and i'm your knight in armor" (TIME STAMPED)

the truth is that the music business got smaller after the napster era, the freedoms black artists and execs once had are no longer there

if you aren't crossing over out the gate, they don't want you. if your music is too soulful sounding and definitely too conscious

:whoa: hold up. I know what the term means - they're using it out of place is what I'm saying.

saying that an entire genre that was damn near 100 years old died out because people are singing in a higher register is complete bullshyt.

What baffles me is where are all the black people in electronic music yet whites mexican and asians are easily getting into rap?

what's even crazier is that ALL of modern pop right now is a derivative of denniz pop and max martins russian house music/dance music from the 90's

he never hid the fact that his whole sound came from chicago's 80's house scene

we just never did anything with it, yet again some shyt we created that was brilliant and we just danced to for a bit and moved on :stopitslime:
