Like who? People talk about Mike because he's dead and was the biggest star ever. I don't hear about Little Richard, James Brown (even though he just had a movie out), Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Smokie Robinson etc. like that on the regular in 2014. We live in a "what's hot now" culture.
Me and my homeboys were just talking about Stevie Wonder last night. Theres very few real geniuses out there but the real ones come up a lot. I guess that's why OP said Kells was underrated cuz many people overlook his greatness

So you and your homeboys are the barometer for who is being discussed and given props now? :heh: A lot of people talk about a lot of different things. I assumed we were talking about pop culture and people at large. There is no way to have a real discussion about what every individual is discussing. Nobody overlooks his greatness, it's just not 1994 anymore.

the piss controversery, the beef with jigga, and the regression to young ingorant nikka music on double up (i like this album tho lol) all put dents in his current popularity and people's ability to appreciate him...but dude is a top 10 r&b/soul artist of all time. not the #best voice, but a good voice, dope writer, producer, and versatile.

#GOAT :mjcry:

i blame that on this young geneartion not being exposed to it. that's my parent's music, i grew up listing to them play it, but now parents with teens are in their 30's-40's, they grew up listening to rap and 90's r&b, we're losing that generation of music. even the radfio station that used to mostly play soul/r&b from the 60's-90's has switch up to today's ratchet r&b and "soft" rap

Artists have always had a shelf life. None of those artists were as big in the 90s as they were in their respective hey days. Kids who are interested will have no trouble finding that music with few clicks and keystrokes.

There's a lot of R&B singers better than R. Kelly. If we're talking about R&B music from the '90's forward, then maybe a case can be made. If we're including eras before the 90's, there's no way R. Kelly is GOAT.
