But you mentioned me in your post in here.

But anywho, R. Kelly’s music isn’t really on the same level quality wise as D’Angelo. D has better melodies, lyrics, and a better ear for music than R. Kelly has. That’s not to say that R. Kelly doesn’t have good songs because he does. But I prefer D’s musical execution to R. Kelly’s.

Ok. Just do know that you are in the severe minority.

I dont need your sympathy.
Dangelo is overrated and is a minor footnote in music.
His most memorable moments came in 1995
On his second album no one cared about anything outside his video.

Dude really aint do shyt.
Not only is he lacking quanity, when he did show up,his impact was just aight. It's not like everytime he came back,he was running shyt.

And even after we all were talking about D'Angelo being the main influence over the Neo-Soul movement. And how acclaimed and influential his 3-album discography is, you still making posts like these. That's my queue to just ignore anything you have to say moving forward.

D'Angelo is one of those artists who doesn't care about the spotlight and doesn't have to be "out there" all the time just to make an impact. He creates masterpieces and people follow suit. He doesn't even have to try as hard as R. Kelly does just be seen and heard.

A critically acclaimed masterpiece doesn't need huge hits in order to be great. True talent is required. And that's what D'Angelo has. Now this is my last post to you and I'm not going to respond to anything else you have to say going forward.

The people chose kells at retail AND

I honestly revisit DAngelo’s discography way more than Kells. :manny:

Kells is more circumstantial for me.

D is more ... whenever ... anytime.

And let’s keep it funkee... DAngelo writes, songs, arranges, composes and plays instruments ... a TRUE musician and in the vein of musical genius .
Like kellz don't do the same:mjlol:

Good. I’ll be waiting.

Morning sis,

For me it boils down to consistency, longevity, skills and overall body of work. A few years back, it was brought to my attention that R Kelly wrote for Michael Jackson. I was floored!

He’s got a deeper discography that has transcended time. He’s innovative, the singing hip hop style really took on new levels between Teddy Riley and R Kelly’s execution of the song structure. A structure that was really non existent in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

He’s not a better singer than D, nor is he as conscious but he has the ability to make records that connect with everyone. Obviously he can make the standard R&B records for women but he can also give you better niche records; for instance, You have sad ballads that touch on mourning loved ones who are no longer with us “I Wish”, or the inspiring “I believe I can fly” or “Worlds greatest”.

Don’t get me started on his church records or his Chicago swing records from Choclate Factory/Happy People era.........

It’s not a fair comparison. R Kelly May be the goat. He also gives a great live show.

I love D, but he’s not as versatile as Kells. He also lacks the consistency and depth in his body of work to be compared to him

Just my .2:hubie:

It sounds like to you consistency= albums/greater output, instead of the quality throughout his discography, and I disagree. I find that R. Kelly is not really consistent from a discography perspective as D’Angelo even through the latter has 3 albums in relation to R. Kelly’s 15. All 3 of D’Angelo’s albums are amazing from start to finish, where as R. Kelly has a couple of songs here and there that are great from each album, where others are not so great. His albums have gotten worse over time as well. And that’s why I disagree about your opinion of him being more consistent.

D’Angelo’s music is influenced from the Church given that he has played piano since the tender age of 3, and continues to play piano for his church. His parents were Pentecostal and were very religious as well. His father was a preacher at that. So with the chords and melodies that you hear in D’s music, he has the gospel influence in his records too. He may not have made a direct gospel song like “U Saved Me” but the influence has always been there. “Higher” (the last song on Brown Sugar) is one of the Gospel influenced songs in his discography that shows what I’m talking about.

He has even talked about possibly making a Gospel quartet album someday, which will most likely be better than R. Kelly’s output as well.

Here’s a rare clip of D’Angelo covering “Don’t Let Jesus Down” by The Pilgrim Saints”

And hmmm.. at R. Kelly being more versatile than D’Angelo when 90% of his discography revolves around the subject of Sex. He also doesn’t really experiment with different sounds and influences as much as D’Angelo does neither. It’s like you know exactly what you’re going to get when listening to R. Kelly, where as with D’Angelo.. none of his albums sound the same. In addition to soul, D’Angelo music has Gospel, Jazz, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, and rock elements in it.. and I’m sure he will continue to experiment with those elements plus more in future albums to come as well. In my opinion, that’s what versatility is about.

But that’s how I feel. :yeshrug:
