I would argue that a vast majority of people don’t really get the full substance of Black consciousness which is what ends up causing this phenomena. The idea is to acknowledge the truth of what has happened but not to let it rule your imagination with regards to what can be done to turn things around. Also, there are a lot of people that play dress up with consciousness just to get away from something. Those people end up having kids and when their actions begin to contradict then these same kids grow up to be total cynics towards the idea of Blackness.

Nowhere does he say, "race doesn't matter in America". He DOES believe it's being overblown purposely and that there's people, grifters and corporations for example, who are using the racial divide to profit their own pockets. He also believes, which is true on a humanist level that people of the same race have issues with any individual of that race more so than an individual outside of that race. For example, with Cube, him and Mack 10 will NEVER reconcile, but Cube is cool with many people who aren't black. And that the same with any person of every race. There are people who of your race you cannot stand, but you are cool with another person who is not of your ethnicity.
Now you can if you want to criticize Cube of his evolution from how he used to feel 30 years ago. But don't put what he said out of context. He wouldn't be pro-reparations if he doesn't think race matters in America. Don't confuse wanting racial harmony with denying racism exist. Even the original Black Panthers sought brotherhood from people outside of their race.
