Better to die in the blast, heat and pressure than to slowly be poisoned to death by radiation.
You better not be in those urban areas if that happens (if you survive the attack). A lot of bad shyt is gonna happen. I'd take my chances in rural areas. People who've known me and my family for generations. That social fabric is way stronger. Not to mention, the only thing left in urban areas will be atomic rats and roaches to consume with already poisoned water to drink that now has a double dose. It's the perfect killing field when you really think about it.
You can be fukked in rural areas when that wind shifts plus other factors. People who survived and got out the cities will eventually show up (drain on resources, not to mention most "careers" are built for modern society...Who needs a middle manager/account supervisor when the lights go out?) What real skills do they have they can use from the workplace in that setting?
But worst case scenario, no more supermarket, just have to get it out the woods, water and soil (if not contaminated). That's shyt country people do anyways, so they're way more built to survive a structural collapse than the average city person. When all that technology and ease goes, they're in serious shyt. Rural people will be left to rebuild because most city people would die within a month all else being even. How many of y'all ever hunted or fished what you ate? Even know how to make a fukking fire? Build some shyt? Y'all toast...enjoy it while it lasts. It's gonna look like the #16 seed against the #1 seed in the NCAA tourney. Won't be pretty.
People in urban areas who still have family in rural areas and can get back, well they'll fare infinitely better as long as they can make it back. I've had that convo with cousins a long time ago when all that was "conspiracy theory". They know the game plan. Just gotta make it back home and you'll have a chance. People automatically assume a government will come back, but that's normalcy bias, normalcy bias can and will get you fukked up in situations like that.
