Just like Eminem dumbed down his shyt to drop classics like MMLP, instead of super lyrical shyt like Infinite.
What does crossover have to do with anything you little retard? Being a relevant rapper does equal crossing over to being a popstar.
His singles charted on HOT100, he was selling out small east coast tours, he went gold, he was on YO Mtv raps, performing street joints on MTV, featured on hit songs by Foxy, collabos with Big and the list goes on YET he wasn't relevant

I'm not talking about just that quote. He's been trying to be on everybody's song lately and he used to never do guest features outside of a select few. He seems like he's hurting for money and recognition. I heard him on the radio in VA recently and he sounded like he was about to cry when he was reminiscing about the Wu glory days. And he's still very salty at RZA about their money dispute.
It's just kinda sad to see the once-mighty author of the purple tape who gave so little of a fukk that he dissed a prime Biggie looking like this.

There are different meanings to crossover, but if you want to go by the original definition DMX was the biggest rapper at one point but was only on the hiphop charts and not the pop charts, which indicates that he didn't crossover.
Foxy Brown was a bigger artist, how is that relevant though? She was a bigger artis on a major label and sold a million records. Bone Thugs were bigger than Biggie, does that mean that he wasn't relevant in 94, 95? Even with #1 songs and shyt.
And Em definitely dumbed down his lyrics, a majority of his fanbase were kids who could understand most of his lyrics (if they were smart) but them understanding Infinite would be highly unlikely. It was a more pleasant sound, more radio friendly songs; duke was even singing at several points and on but it also made for better music.
And again, no one is saying that he was a BIG DEAL, just that he was a relevant rapper. There were big deals like Pac, Fugees, Snoop, Big and Bone then you had pretty big rappers like Outkast, Foxy, Lil Kim, Meth, Nas, LL and then you have relevant rappers like Raekwon, Ghostface, KRS, Tribe, Mobb deep, Jay-z, E-40, Face and on. While Jay-z might've been closer to not being relevant than to being with the big rappers he was still relevant moving the same units, charting the same position with the singles and performing on the same TV shows.
