Rae decided not to be too safe and too obvious on "Immobilarity" and we see how that turned out.

I HATE constricting artists to a specific box but you have a good point. Although I will say every time Rae steps outside the box its not a miss. I really liked his last album The Wild which had a similar production lineup as whats been announced for Emperor’s New Clothes

Nah I'm kinda trolling but Rae usually sounds best over pseudo-Wu sounding production IMO. If you look at his discography most of the well received songs sound like that.

His second most acclaimed album is Cuban Linx 2 cuz it's his second most Wu sounding album. Wu members just have to admit that we only want them over Wu sounding production :manny:

Was that him trying not to be safe/obvious or was it him beefing with RZA. They had some type of falling out after Wu Tang Forever. I dunno if he was beefing with Ghost too but always thought it was weird he wasn't on the album either.

Frustrating thing is at the time only a couple people were rapping better than Rae. If he got another RZA-helmed album OR even 4-5 RZA beats alongside the solid/good cuts from the album it would have been dope. High chance at another classic album. Sneakers (Pete Rock), Live From New York, The Table...great tracks.

I don't think he ever gave a definitive answer outside of "creative differences".

Regardless, the album was recorded in 1998, RZA was still very much RZA during that time frame. I don't see any possibility where the version we got is superior to one helmed, even partially, by RZA. At the very least he could've exec produced/curated it like "Supreme Clientele", which is obviously light years ahead of "Immobilarity".

I agree 100% . IMO multiple guys missed out on having their own Supreme Clientele ie a dope album that mixed some RZA curation with more creative control for the artist (even Ghost's barber got a dope beat on SC lol). I'd have to peep again but I wan to say most of RZA's tracks on SC were skits. Majority of the actual beats were done by other people, and they're all good to great.

RZA did "The Grain", "Buck 50", "Stroke Of Death", and "Child's Play" aside from the skits.

im not so sure about that

take the best tracks from the album and couple them with the omitted tracks

If you took the above "Supreme Clientele" beats and inserted them into various tracks on "Immobilarity", that alone would elevate the album.

EDIT:

If you look at RZA's '98 beat output it's not even close.

Pick a handful of those beats and imagine Rae over them.

Thats not true. Ghost is able to branch out production-wise. Meth can branch out as well.

Rae just needs a strong executive producer to feed him the best beats from the producers he’s interested in working with.

Ghost's most acclaimed and beloved albums are Supreme Clientele and Ironman, both Wu produced. Everyone wants Supreme Clientele 2 cuz they want it to sound like Wu. Meth's most beloved music is grimy and Wu sounding. People love his resurgence cuz he's rhyming over Griselda grimy production. They can still make dope shyt over other production, but not consistently.
