Raekwons legacy as a solo artist is basically just OB4CL

Like it is one of the most influential hip hop albums ever and basically ushered in the mafioso rap that dominated the east coast the rest of the 90s. Yet he never did anything that was a fraction as relevant since. When people speak about Raekwon they bring up the album but nothing else really. “Man ob4cl was fire one of the goat albums” then it’s crickets. Ghost went on to make Ironman and Supreme Clientele and a few other albums we talk about. The only other emcee who had such an influential album then nothing else really of note is Lauryn Hill.

OB4CL 2 is an incredible album & he’s got more good shyt in his catalogue (Wu-Massacre & Shaolin vs Wu Tang)

Latest album was a solid offering.

Was important part of Ironman.

Obviously 36 Chambers & Wu Tang Forever.

OB4CL is arguably the GOAT Hip-Hop album, was always going to be hard to replicate that & even if he didn’t live up to those expectations…his career still better then 75% of rappers that have had a career in rap music.

Exactly.

OP is making a casual argument. No offense.

Most rappers have 0 classics. Rae having one undeniable classic is enough to cement his status.

Would it have been nice if his second and third albums were better? Sure, but he did some good work after that and has never lost his sharpness as a rapper unlike a lot of the Wu. He's had a great career.

Yep. Linx 2 and Shaolin vs Wu are good albums too. He's also an underrated feature artist

As a casual, you aren't necessarily wrong. But god damn. Who cares? Linx is arguably the best rap album of all time. That's a great legacy. Most people never make a close to classic album, let alone an all time classic.

All of this.

Most artists spend their entire careers trying to make something as groundbreaking as OBFCL. Rae did it on his FIRST try as a solo artist. Plus we can’t forget that Rae was/is part of an overall collective, the most famous and revered collective in the genre’s history. Rae can hang his hat on 36 Chambers, Wu-Tang Forever, his verses on Ironman, and the fact that he made the best Hip Hop sequel we’ve ever heard.

There’s more to Raekwon than Only Built For Cuban Linx and I think he’s properly rated and revered within the industry because of it.

Yeah he had a lot of the best contributions on those albums and pretty sure he had the most verses of all the members on Forever. I also consider ironman half his album the same way Linx is half Ghost's album

I mean I sort of agree solowise.

But solowise his one classic is the classic of all classics, 6 out of 5 mics, your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper’s favorite album, +72 mins of pure fire, pyramid of Giza level shyt. Other rappers can’t do it in 10 albums.

Add to that wu albums, Ironman and features. Gtfo.
