The signing will have an impact on Tatum's minutes, he's not a 4 and neither is Hayward.

They started that night because Morris was out, and Stephens hadn't come to the realization that Horford at the 4 was what is best for the team. If you think starting Tatum or Hayward at the 4 next to Horford at the 5 makes them a better team you're buggin, they would be so soft on the glass it's not even funny :yeshrug:
Tatum started over Morris when he was available during the preseason. He is literally starting over Morris right now. He's started every single game of the regular season regardless of injuries/match-up. I'm almost certain he'll start next season.

Tatum's played 3/4 pretty much all season. Horford has been at the 5 for huge chunks of the season. They've alternated between Morris and Baynes in the starting lineup based on the match up. They'll be fine on the glass because they're long/athletic at almost every position and their guards/wings rebound well. They also play great defense thus are in good position on the defensive glass.

:wtf:

Because Tatum is an SF, if they were going to start Horford at C Morris would be playing over Tatum because he has logged more minutes as a PF than he has as an SF especially if Hayward hadn't nuked his ankle. Starting Hayward and Tatum at the same time means Horford most likely has to play C full time and he's clearly better at the 4.

Almost 80% of Tatum's minutes have been at SF, that is what he is, clearly. Horford is at his best playing the 4, and as he ages playing him at the 5 in a league that is getting more big body C's in it does him no favors. They have been ok on the glass this year because they start a large human being at the 5 on most nights, playing Horford at the 5 fulltime leads to a poor rebounding team no matter how well you think your wings can rebound.

Dog, the lineup in the preseason was Kyrie/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Horford. Morris was available. He's not starting over Tatum after an offseason to improve his game, that's nonsense. Neither is Baynes. Horford started at 5 for the C's last season, he started at 5 for the C's to start this season, and he will start at 5 for the C's next season.

That large human being will still be the first big off the bench. They will have pretty much the same rotation minus major minutes going to scrubs like Semi, Nader, Larkin, etc. I cannot believe you're honestly making the argument that having a Tatum/Hayward tandem somehow makes the Celtics worse. That's a Skip Bayless level take.

And even though Baynes starts at center he barely plays 20 MPG, Horford still plays most of his minutes at the 5. Not to mention that Stevens’ favorite lineup in 4th quarters is Kyrie/Smart or Rozier/Brown/Tatum/Horford

Kyrie’s knee having long term issues is something that could be worrying, Hayward & Tatum being able to coexist is not.

We talking about preseason? really?

Again, 80% of Tatum's minutes are at SF, 86% of Morris minutes are at PF.

You're not starting Tatum/Hayward/Horford and being successful on the boards, there's a reason why Baynes still starts despite the fact you could run Tatum/Morris/Horford as your frontcourt. I believe there's redundancy in a Tatum/Hayward frontcourt, especially when Horford is the C, but you'll find that out soon if they actually do start them together which I doubt.

Yeah, why wouldn't we? That's the last time we saw the roster fully together, and a rookie Tatum started over Morris and Baynes.

We're starting Baynes over Morris because Morris has been one of their only consistent scorers off the bench. He just works better as an instant offense guy in the 2nd unit. They've also started Morris a bunch throughout the year depending on the match-up.

There is nothing redundant about Hayward and Tatum. All they have in common are they're good offensive wings. Tatum is a better iso 1 on 1 scorer and Hayward is a better playmaker/passer, and off the ball player. They both shoot it well from the outside which is great for the Celtics offense. The Celtics opening night/preseason starting 5 has looked great in the limited time we've seen them. Fit together seamlessly in the preseason. I have no doubt they will be a great lineup next year.
