I doubt they'd have to overpay massively for him, and the Magic are under the cap to begin with so what does it matter? Secure a young player who has potential and can start for you day 1.

and considering Exun is an RFA, you have to convince Utah that it isn't worth matching a deal for Exum, so it has to be exorbitant to make Utah flinch. 2 for $20 is a relatively easy match. 4 for $44-$48 would make Utah think twice, but if I'm Orlando that's a sketchy ass deal to offer.

Sure, but they could also help him in the long term by pairing him up with a 6'6" PG that has the size to guard SGs
Exum at PG has a ways to go. Thus, not throwing him in the deep end of the pool again. They could afford to do that in Exum's rookie year. They're a firm playoff team now. If Exum becomes that PG for them, it's gonna take time, regardless of health.

None of these PGs are worth passing on some of these bigs, Vucci's contract is up after next season and Bismack's is up the year after that. I like Vucci's offense and all, but his defense is horrific, it's time to move on from him and if Bamba is on the board I'd draft him over trading down for a PG crop that isn't that great.
Is it really a sketchy deal? You're taking a chance on him but $11-12 million for a potential starting PG is a bargain if you can also get a high level big in the draft.
Gobert deserves all the credit for the Jazz turning around, or is their defense playing at a historic level since his return just a coincidence?
I didn't say to start him right now, I said long term Exum next to Mitchell makes the most sense because it can take Donovan off SGs.

I wouldn't even bother disrespecting Hart by saying he's gonna have a better career than Dante Exum. That's a given. The bar is higher for him.

Then fine, but if they took a Bamba, watch them keep both Bamba and Vucevic. If you trade Vucci though, C becomes a need, so Bamba or Jackson wouldn't be a bad idea. If I'm a Magic fan where pretty much every team bleeds decent PG's if the best my team can do is DJ Augustin it's hard to take them seriously.
You're risking your job on Exum though. If you csn't keep Exum healthy, you've just dumped $19 mil of crap into arguably the most important position in today's NBA. You're spending $12 mil a year and saying "he's gonna be healthy AND good even though we haven't seen it yet and I'm gonna throw him out there for big minutes ASAP. Bet the house on it." I don't think Orlando has the leash to take that chance.
That said, the FA crop at PG sucks and you don't wanna give Isaiah Thomas dreams of Brinks trucks again.

Gobert's been the most valuable aspect of their turnaround (nobody argued this), but there's more to it than just Gobert being there. Gobert was gonna be there and not many had them as a playoff team to start the year. They've had meaningful contributions across the board. Otherwise Gobert would be a freakishly amazing defensive player... on a lottery team.
Long term Exum gotta prove that though. 4 years in and we're still talking about what Exum could be in theory.
