They waived him because his contract was about to be guaranteed today or tomorrow & eventually that spot is going to Ajay Mitchell when they convert him from a 2 way deal.
They probably will leave it open through the deadline though just for flexibility but a Cam trade would have worked anyway since they would have to move multiple guys to match money.
