You could blame the schedule being made with no knowledge of how good teams will be but this ain't one of those times. Everyone knew these 2 would be at the top of their conference if not top 2 at the very least...just poor decision making from the NBA on this front

By next week, Thunder may be the in-season tournament champs, have the best record in the West, possibly best record in the league, top 3 MVP candidate... and no Christmas game. lol
