They might lose that game but as l have said before watch them randomly beat the Pistons in 5 in the playoffs
Third of the league is outright tanking. MLB made a change to their draft process. Top 6 is a lottery, big market teams can’t get a lottery pick two years in a row, small market teams can’t get a lottery pick three in a row.
Not a perfect fix but clearly worsening the odds for the top of the lottery hasn’t done shyt to stop tanking
Yea outside of the awards and playoffs I all but stopped betting on NBA (particularly regular season games) 2-3 years ago. I won maybe 15k last year parlaying SGA: MVP + OKC title… had a separate bet that was SGA: MVP + Knicks/Thunder Final that had a 30k payout… so you could imagine how I felt during that Knicks/Pacers series
Yet this year the betting sites wouldn’t let me parlay regular season awards + titles, also stopped letting me parlay division winners… it’s like they force you to just parlay nightly games, and fukk all that.

I wouldn’t say I necessarily care whether Utah or Washington are competitive or not, but they’re doing some of the most egregious tanking I’ve ever seen
At the same time though, I can’t fault them. They were genuinely the two worst teams in basketball last season and picked 5th and 6th while 3 teams that were essentially playoff teams derailed by injury all got the top 3 picks. Plus they both have protections on their picks this year and a team that’s already bad cannot afford to lose their pick under any circumstances, and the only way they can guarantee they don’t is by being in the bottom four. Additionally, they’re teams that aren’t seen as destinations to attract stars so the draft is their only hope.
The NBA as currently constructed incentivizes losing for certain teams, that’s just the reality. Plus due to the nature of basketball, one individual player can change a franchise’s trajectory in a way that you don’t see in the NFL or MLB.
I’m not sure what the solution is. Do you change the lottery odds again, do you remove trading protected picks, do you block teams from getting consecutive top 4 picks, do you have independent doctors validate if guys are really injured. Idk.
TL/DR: Teams not even trying to win games isn’t good for the league, but the way the league is currently setup it is completely understandable why they take that route.
