This isn’t the NFL where we do “what have we learned”. But after 1 game, I am absolutely confident that the mavs will not make the playoffs or if they do, they might sneak in because of play in.

I know we don't do "what we learned"/overreactions for the NBA like we do for football, but if we did:

I think there's a chance the C's could be last year's 76ers. They'll try to compete for about half a year or so, realize it's futile, tap out for the rest of the season and probably walk into a T3 pick. Which would be infuriating, but hey...

Speaking of Philly - I'd like to think if they stay healthy (:francis:) and VJ has the impact I believe he can, they're easily an ECF threat. But man, I hope Embiid's just working his way into game shape or something, 'cause that was rough.
I rather us tank than try to go for it with this roster constructed as is tbh, just because there’s too many gaping holes, but I just don’t think you can repress nikkas when they show you they wanna win. OKC had a really good finger on the pulse of that. I think we had a good feel once Simmons got in, but I don’t know if I agree with this continued pursuit of near washed big names superstars over any real depth…

They gotta get a feel for how cooked PG and Jo are and re-evaluate by December. If they’re top 6 in the East and those nikkas are done, maybe then go for it.

Still don’t know why Flagg was drafted number 1. Like I watched him play live in the ncaa tournament when it came through Raleigh and while he did good things, I didn’t see a number 1 pick. We will see what he does this year, but these teams ain’t James Madison and them no more.

Agree about his time at duke, but the main reason to draft him is he's only 18 so the ceiling is still unknown. They had to take that risk.

5 fouls in 15 minutes for Dylan Cardwell.
@Rigby. :francis:
Eh I heard from the people that watched the game he did pretty well. I doubt the fouls get much better, but if you can get him holding the boards down and competing around the paint, he exceeded expectations. Sounds like he did that :yeshrug:

There’s no one else it would’ve made sense to take #1 lol. I don’t think the ACC is exactly good, but Cooper had plenty of moments against real competition where you saw the archetype. Harper is nice but Cooper’s floor was higher and his ceiling is just as desirable as Dylan’s.

If the on ball play maker stuff pops for Flagg, it’s a no brainer. But even if he’s just like super charged connective piece on both ends with elite floor vision and a guy who can score well. I think that’s still more than comparable to what people are projecting Harper to as a ceiling (basically Cade and SGA adjacent). Flagg could be like turbo charged Draymond if none of the on ball stuff is elite. I think that’s still close personally

I feel like there needs to be something above generational prospect. Like Flagg can be that. I think Boozer, Petersen and Dybantsa can be that. Chet and Paolo offer that potential. But yeah, LeBron and Wemby are on a different echelon than that.

I just would never draft the former batch of guys expecting that they can be equals to those two or Kareem, Magic, etc etc. maybe you get lucky but it’s hard to expect that
