Pedro Martinez was the best pitcher I've ever seen. And I was really into mlb in thkse days. His circle change and curve on top of a 98 mph heater :banderas:

Randy Johnson had some control issues at one ooint, but when he got the hang of it, he was great, but Pedro was better. Maddog was just a brain that could paint the corners. Id take Prime Smoltz over him :francis:

1. Pedro

3. Johnson

Pedro 2000 season is the greatest pitching season ever, and it happened somewhere between the middle to middle end of the steriod era...

What this comes down to is who you would pitch if u had 1 games to win regardless if it was game 7 of the world series or the final regular season game to make the playoffs

All 3 are great and I wouldn't mind taking any of them

For those talking about the steroid era and Pedro. Remember, he pitched for the AL Red Sox. Most the sluggers- Bonds Sosa McGuire- were in the NL

As I think about it, ITs 1a and 1b Maddox Pedro. Johnson is great but not up there with those 2 when it comes to 1 game to win

:wow:At Lefty throwing 346 innings. I'm SO glad that I'm :flabbynsick: and had the pleasure of seeing these cats pitch.

1. Pedro
2. Maddox/Unit

I can't choose number 3 :whew:

I've seen plenty of dudes pitch and I never hated/appreciated a pitcher more than Pedro, he was truly on some next level Bob Gibson/ Sandy Koufax stuff. I've seen all of your list in their primes and Doc is my fav, but Pedro is:ohlawd:
Glad you brought up Koufax. They said when he was unhittable... As a pitching coach with the Dodgers in his 40s and 50s.
I'd go with Pedro. Great thread.

Mechanics.
Lots of lanky guys threw very hard.

Gooden
Randy Johnson
Guidry
Pedro
Koufax

In HS I threw 87.
A football player I knew was strong as shyt and was clocked at 71 at his best.
Yeah that's very true. Hardest throwing kid on my HS team was a 5'8 140lbs Asian kid and he got clocked at 91 mph

While we had another kid 6'2 220lbs and he could barely touch 80 on the mound

I also topped out at 87mph my senior year before I hurt my arm. Always wondered if I could have hit 90 if I didn't get hurt. I got quite a bit stronger by my freshman year in college

Out of this list, I'd take Maddux first, even with his playoff faliures. Him, and Galvine were about as automatic as you can get. Guaranteed wins. It was the main reason why Bobby Cox and the Braves ran their division for like 15 years. That is dominance.

Pedro gets #2

Johnson #3
