Ehh realistically they have to be shut down, and its pretty surprising that they lasted this long.

One of the few legal ways to lose legal rights to intellectual property is to not protect it. IF you allow a work that you own the IP for to be used for a period of time without restriction it becomes public domain and you lose the ability to protect yourself from other companies using your IP. In theory if the the MMLP2 lyrics are posted on rapgenius for a significant period of time, a different record label say columbia could release a song with the same exact lyrics and interscope wouldnt be able to sue them. Whether it logically makes sense, and whether a court of law would actually rule one way or the other is besides the point....

Now maybe other factors are at play in this case, but in general there have been many cases company's aggressively persue IP infringements purely to avoid inadvertently losing IP by non action.

Rap Genius can suck a dikk...but I can't support corporate abuses of freedom like this. The idea that lyrics break copywrite laws is ridiculous, especially in an era where many CDs don't even include lyric books, and no iTunes albums include them.

You honestly couldn't decipher that Sharon Stone is an actress and Sliver would have been a movie she starred in without the aid of some cac hipsters from Rap Genius?

I mean once you know who Sharon Stone is (which every human being from age 18-80 should...Deductive reasoning would lead you to find out since she is an actress Sliver would be a movie...

Your generation really is dumb.. And I say that with all due respect...

This. I can understand people not liking RapGenius for whatever reason. But hip-hop artists 9 times out of 10 don't include the lyrics with the album booklet so the site does serve a purpose. Not to mention a lot of artists support it and annotate their own lyrics which is helpful sometimes.

this is awful if it's true. Like really bad.

I've learned so much about the background of certain lyrics and songs that I would've never known.

I didn't grow up on the east coast....I had no clue what Ghostface or Nas, etc was making reference to in alot of their songs growing up. That site gives great info.

No lie, I stopped listening to rap for a while and RapGenius helped me to appreciate the art form again.

:what:really breh?

do you work for them? cuz that shyt you said sound like a commercial or sum shyt

Most of the descriptions and "annotations" given to the lyrics are usually wrong and corny, but it's a dope site to get lyrics. It's one of the most highly updated lyric sites I've ever been to, and most the time the lyrics are as close to correct as you can get, unlike other ones that'll have you wondering if the person who typed up the lyrics are deaf because they misunderstood what was said so bad.

Y'all really so anti white man that you hate on a site because it was created by some indie rock looking type dudes?

Quit reaching dude. The lyrics don't even use the word "silver"

Personally I don't listen to a song trying to analyze it and break down the meaning of every single word. I've never really thought in depth about that "snakes slither like sharon stone" line while listening to that track. But rapgenius provides a nice and quick way to read through annotations on what lines actually mean and a lot of the time it has stuff you would've never thought of on your own (unless you're deliberately trying to analyze everything) or just didn't notice. Although people post a lot of dumb shyt on there too).

I don't listen to every single line and be like "hm I wonder what that means - google sharon stone - sort through tons of shyt - hm it kinda sounds like silver even though he means slither.....oh yea sharon stone was in some no name film Silver (not like that film was big/popular either)"

:stopitslime:Seriously dude, just stop

Ill be honest. I went on rap genius and read all of the MMLP2 lyrics and that was dayyyys before november 5th. I read all those lyrics before i listened to the album. And all those stans in internet land had already tried to explain the lyrics as if they knew what they were really about. and again, this was dayyyyyyyyyyyyys before november 5th.
but that lasted only 1 day cuz they were shut down by eminem and got a cease letter until 11.5.
i dont see anything wrong with the site, but its stupid when they have a little highlighted box that tries to explain what the writer really meant :comeon:
