Theres no talent in rap anymore, the min I heard someone say lyrics didnt matter, I knew the genre was head for trouble. We let guilty pleasures take over and be the face of it.

Im all for creative flows and beats like carti, but where is the substance, when I heard clipse last album it shown me how much I've tuned out lyrics. I havent researched a song since lupes "murals".

We need melodic lyricists who know how to craft songs. It shouldnt be either great creative beats/flows and shyt lyrics or great lyrics and boring flows/beats

Bring up the Clipse as an example of substance brehs

This touches on another point that I may speak on in depth later because I don't have time right now.

One of the reasons rap fell off is nikkas got too cool A lot of these nikkas have no personality, and no artistic ambition, and they think they're too cool and above it all to care. But in the age of AI, and homogeneous low effort slop content ruined by corporate greed, people crave artistry and effort. This is one of the main reasons people love Kendrick

All of those pop stars you named have developed characters, and aesthetics

I agree. Also I feel that the emergence of streaming as the new, cool, low effort way to "get money" will help by funneling a lot of folks out of music. Guys who would have started making offbrand Youngboy shyt to make money will now be buying streaming equipment. So hopefully the people who choose to rap will be more dedicated to actually making music. I don't care if it's "real rap" or melody shyt...just need dudes who give a fukk.

Previously even rappers like Jadakiss or Fab could get decent budgets because even 300 400k in physical sales still generates millions of dollars, Going Gold in the cd era was more profitable than going platinum now. That's why they are focusing on pop artist or Latin artist that can get more streams globally because being popular to only 20 percent of us population isn't gonna generate enough streams for the labels to recoup.

Ok breh, I'll agree the subject matter is also an issue i have with mainstream rap being limited, but to say that the clipse aren't lyrical is crazy.

As I typed that in also realized you could also be pointing out a double entendre.

Good tbh. The genre will be better off qualitywise and also it's time the kids made their own rebel music. Hip Hop is 50 years old now. The kids need to make something else and upset the system again much like how it was done with rap.

They rather stream

Seems like there has been a overall dip in music in general with the new generation. Other forms of media and entertainment have captured their attention.

Mainly social media.

Internet babies, they rather be influences and social media stars.

When these female rappers and drill rappers music only appeal to just the broke streets and no one can make cross over hits like a Drake or Kendrick on a large scale consistently thats the problem

Your biggest consumers the white and Hispanic dollars isn’t buying any of these Lotto , ice spice, nba young boy records

Nah that aint it. Cross over hits are being made. Labels have deprioritized rap. Like I said earlier Doechi made her "crossover hit" half a decade ago.

shyt ain move till labels got behind it. How many other crossover hits are out there, labels jus dont give a fukk anymore.

I can't fully blame them. They were raised in an era where music has been FREE.99. They don't hold the same value in it that we do. Their superstars are people like Kai Cenat.

How are you done or not getting money if you are getting a billion streams per year and making millions from shows.

Oh yeah, if you’re not making nba player money then you are not making money. People let Joe Budden, Ish and Akademiks fool their minds with their money talk

It's the "fans".

But the standard for what "good" music is, is so low today, of course sh*t was gonna get f*cked up. Look at the artists people hype up on here. 98% of these rappers are doo doo. Then you factor in that the listeners don’t even want to pay for music anymore. The quality is bad now, and it's everywhere. So I can understand why the sales are down.

Once the actual fans start demanding better music and they get back to spending on the music they like, things will change.
