Listen to Dee-1's music and you'll see

I better not see any Dee-1 hate in this thread either

My negs are reheating
I always liked Dee-1. Dude is a real one.
Props to him for going against the grain and representing something better :salute:

I don't see any of today's modern rappers making songs about shooting up KKK rallies... but they'll bang on their own people like it's nothing.
It's really sad.

I guess if you rap about it a few times you’re telling your story.

If you rap about it often, you’re promoting or highlighting a lifestyle/culture/image, etc…

I think, anyway.
So you're saying there's a limit? Like 10 times or 10 songs? 25 songs? At first your telling your story, then after its been told it's just promotion?

When you look at an artist like Jay-Z who has 30 years+ in the game...theres the point where you can say "he doesn't rap about the same shyt he was rapping about in 93" but how long did it take from rapping about bricks and guns, acuras, BMW x5s, Mercedes, to yachts, cristal, Mercedes s class, to mansions, maybachs, basquiats, million dollar watches, owning businesses.....

Every single era of Jay got stale, and seemingly just when people gave up, he came back with some new shyt.

They aren't wrong. Growth takes time, maybe we shouldn't let these new cats even grow, maybe their music and lifestyle will kill them before they even get a chance to be a 10 year, 15 year, veteran of rap.

I think looking back you’d give a leash to rappers in the 80s and 90s talking about stuff.

Where you draw the line is up to you. But I think in 2023 nobody is rapping with NWA’s motive to put a spotlight on the LAPD. You know what I mean?

You're right. I agree with you, I do have to say I haven't listened to new rappers in probably a decade. I've heard some people say Kodak and youngboy rap about some real shyt, and rap about their experiencs and tell what's going on in their lives and shyt, but I'm really not even interested.

I agree with the message, but I question the authenticity and timing of the messenger. Gillie has a mouth and can say those words about his fest if that’s what he desires. This kinda comes off as brown nosing and opportunistic. Like look at me and my conscious music. Not feeling that. If I’m wrong, my bad, but this and the emotions expressed seem contrived and performative.
You see it. Dude has always been like this too. He's got some kind of complex where he feels morally superior/smarter than everyone.

This is the song that 1st got him some buzz in New Orleans

Anything he came out with after that nobody bothered to pay attention to.
