Usually I would agree with this, but there is something about Chicago violence that seems way more entrenched.
A lot of these guys are killing over disputes rather than crimes of opportunity. A lot of these young kids are killing for reputation and for misguided loyalty to their gang or set, rather than participating in simple robberies and assaults. They are killing simply because they don't like one set or the other, or because one set or the other disrespected their gang. It doesn't help that a lot of them are born into gang activity. They have parents and in some cases grandparents that were involved in gang activity. If their immediate family isn't involved in gang activity, then they will have cousins who are. It also doesn't help that the gangs have become splintered, and now you have gangs (or sets) beefing with each other from literally only a block away.
For instance, look at this:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=z4E5OIY2pJus.khqLJ7NEhONo
You have MOB from 59th and Wabash beefing with 600 based in 59th and Indiana. We are talking gangs that are literally 2 blocks away from each other.
600 just so happens to be in the same neighborhood as Jaro City and STL/EBT whom they are also beefing with. 600 are surrounded by their rivals.
Then to depict the sets that I referred to in the first video, you see TYMB on 65th and Maryland only a few blocks from Diddy Grove (800) on 61st and Cottage Grove. TYMB are also a few blocks from Chris World on 66th whom they have beef with. When you consider the proximity of some of these rival factions to one another, it's no surprise that shootings are so high.
TYMB alone are beefing with Chris World, Drill City, Mixx Mobb, 051YM, STL/EBT, 46THF (another BD set), StonySpot (BPSN set from 62nd), all of whom with the exception of Drill City/Mixx Mobb and STL/EBT are all in the immediate area. At one point they were beefing with Oblock. They basically have no gang allegiances other than to their own set and block.
