Not all Nigerians have the same mentality in dealing with America or American women. It varies and it is wild to me that people want to stereotype the behavior of a decent number of men based off of some situations. Some men are trifling. This occurs across many groups so I'm surprised to see this aimed at only Nigerians in this thread when it occurs with other groups and races. Some got into fake relationships with the American women under the pretense that all it would be is a fake relationship and get pressured and trapped into a real relationship by the lady. Yes that happens. Sometimes they have regular relationships. Sometimes it is the same shyt that goes on the world over in various countries among various races. It happens.

Yes there are awful people everywhere but for some reason this seems worse to me than most insincere relationships. This practice can be compared to women who marry men to literally kill them and take their money. It’s on a whole other level of distasteful.

It is unfortunate and some dudes are trifling. Those dudes are especially bad and I won't defend them. But that's not most or even a good number of Nigerians. Some are looking for green cards but those situations are normally understood by both sides and no romantic or personal shyt goes down between them outside of taking some pictures together to keep the charade going for immigration officials. Strictly business on both sides, which I won't knock.

I really don't want to spoil some peoples marriages (some of these guys are genuinely in love with their wives) but I will just say that these women should use due diligence.

If you don't want to submit to his culture (most Nigerian cultures are patriarchal in the strictest sense).
If you're not prepared to move to Nigeria.
If you are older than him.
If you don't want to learn his language.

Then please move with extreme caution.

In Nigeria, it is seen as extremely irresponsible for a man to abandon his children. However, many of these men believe that the [insert Western country's] system makes it difficult for them father their children in a way they would like.

Women have very few rights in Nigeria. If a woman leaves her husband then she'll most likely be told (by both of their family members) to leave the kids for him. Not many single mothers get child support.

There's a tendency with some Nigerians (I'm a Nigerian myself btw) to be 'over-smart'. They want to take advantage of the woman before she can take advantage of him. They've heard horror stories about how Western women are bad and how one divorced her husband and left him penniless or took the kids away from him. They believe these stories and attribute them to all Western women.

It's wrong but one of the big reasons a lot of these men have children with the women instead of just getting into a contract marriage with them is because it's much easier to be scammed in the latter scenario.

It's the principle.

Y'all not gonna like this but there's usually more to the story than what the woman tells the kids. If you repeat a lie long enough it becomes the truth.

Most of these relationships break up because of other problems, not because the guy wanted a green card.

Recently in Maryland, there was this Ghanaian lady who told everybody who cared to listen that this Nigerian man left her and the baby after getting his greencard.

But the truth was that this lady and her mom who lived with them made life a living hell for the guy. It got so bad they wouldn't even let him carry the child and he started wondering if that was his child. Imagine a grown man crying to my mom over the phone.

In the end, he left the house for them even though he had paid the down payment and mortgage for a few years. Only God knows the kind of stories and lies she would tell that baby about the cause of their breakup.

In short, don't make your partner miserable just because you sponsored his/her greencard. They'll leave you.
