I think NYC radio made a big mistake when they shunned the whole "get lite" movement. Granted Webstar & Young B weren't that dope, but I think we could have gotten some quality music if we just let the kids rock a little bit more.
We still had the old guard patrolling everything, trying to "bring New York back". Now these same people have very little power, and have to play ANYTHING that gets hot.

I will ALWAYS feel like this record (Lighter "I'm Cute You Ugly") should have been bigger. The siren is too high in the mix, but that could have been fixed.

And Nore's version of Jumping Out the Window was dope

My girl is from the Eastside of Harlem. When we first started talking that get light era was just poppin. I was 19-20 Around that time. On an individual level just hearing the songs themselves I didn't like them that much. But when I would go to parties and they would have whole sets of these songs playing back to back and madd nikkas getting the light feet on and on that shyt had me like :ohhh: :krs:

It was such a vibe and such a high that you really had to be there to witness to appreciate it.

This shyt used to fukking GO

:laff: Keri Hilson was not blacklisted at lest not successfully. She released two albums with a huge budget. She had hit songs. Her career just never really took off.

A lot of the names being dropped in here are people who burned bridges and may have ruined or tarnished their relationships with their peers. Others just fell back for one reason or another. For producers, a lot of times, it's the latter. Once you hit a slump, they'll just find some new guy to ride. I remember Timbaland saying record execs told him to his face "You don't have it anymore. That's why we have these two new guys".

True. On a related note..... hip hop is such an open form of expression, no one is getting shut out of the industry over politics or anything like that. the only blacklisted artists would be Big Lurch, South Park Mexican and Christ Bearer.

Then again.... if Lurch ever gets out, dudes might even fukk with him. Thats some real shyt

I have discussions about music with people and I always bring him as being one of the most talented youngins back then. Dudes thought I was crazy. I had one of his mixtapes from like 2011. Not sure of the name of it but the kid was snappin' on that joint. I used to listen to it in the gym all the time. I even got to meet dude back in 2009. He did a lil club appearance in North Carolina. Dude was cool as fukk. I told him I was serious fan and he looked at me like :childplease: . I had to let him know that it wasn't becuz of All The Way Turnt Up. I told him that I listened to some of shyt and he be out there spittin' some real shyt. Not just the club shyt all the time. nikka gave me a pound and told me "You don't know how much that means to a nikka like me".

My man got done wrong as fukk. I remember those tweets.

why doesnt Lil Flip ever get features on young and upcoming Southern artists shyt? he still make music and honestly he didnt fall off musically, if you compare his verses on new shyt to older stuff.

like how has Kirko Bangz not gotten Flip on some tracks? i wanna hear that. that shyt bothers me.

No one was saying "turns up" before that song

He wrote that Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay song

He wrote Drake " Up all night"

The most talented and valuable people in music will always be hook writers like Roscoe because the money is made from the hookk
