Yo Man - this thread is flopping
People still just listing people who either fell off or stepped on their own feet.
BLACKBALLED means a person or group is making a direct effort to KEEP you from eating or shining.

Example:
Adam and Barry have beef. Barry is a music exec or venue owner or a lawyer. Adam tries to go on tour or release an album....
If Barry is a music exec he makes calls around his network to shut Adam's efforts down
If Barry is a venue owner he not only blocks him from performing but also blocks any associated acts from performing and discourages any other artist to have Adam open for them
If Barry is a lawyer then anyone who rolls with Adam suddenly starts getting mired in litigation for anything and everything therefore creating headaches for anyone who tries to do business with Adam.

Canibus is NOT blackballed - he is just not popping right now.
AZ is NOT blackballed - he is chilling and may have some past regrets on missing opportunities but no-one is actively against him.
Stalley is NOT blackballed - he is a C-list artist who is not popping right now but all that can change with a dope project
Dex is NOT blackballed - he just has issues and needs to focus but nobody (powerful) is out there trying to cut him off
No-one from the Firm was blackballed - Cornega had an unhealthy obsession with Nas, so really Nas had justification to blackball him but Cormega released multiple projects after the fact and nobody was keeping him from being productive. Nas just said he wasn't gonna hold his hand through the process but he never tried to block Cormega's shine. Foxy Brown was a diva that nobody wanted to work with but all Foxy had to do with adjust her attitude and the money is waiting for her - thats not being blackballed.

You want a great example of someone actually being blackballed? the actor Isiah Washington - thats somebody plenty of people want to see ran out of town and who is actively kept from getting opportunities created by his own actions.

Alright Imma Head out now....

You need to define blackballed and people need to say how people were blackballed.

I remember when fools, including Dipset, were saying that Dipset were blackballed. In reality the only thing that happened some dj’s didn’t wanna play their music at one bar in the whole world, namely the 40/40 club. Although they were still allowed to go to the bar.

This did not come from management, dj’s just didn’t wanna gamble their future income from the 40/40 if someone caught feelings

If you make good/great music consistently, you can't get blackballed
You can to some degree at least, for example if you go out like Kells. Even if he came back with a 5 mic classic, will radio play it? Will he get nominated? Will any label pick him up? Will streaming services put it on the first page? Will festivals book him?

Sex crimes in 2020 is like terrorism, way worse than murder and shyt, in people’s eyes.

Now he could still go platinum and do big shows, but that would be completely on his own.

Okay - thats a little bit better BUT.....
AZ is Nas homie so that fact alone keeps a lot of avenues open for him.
Also AZ has a lady who is rich rich rich so he is chilling above any blackball efforts.
Lastly - Lyor Cohen in todays climate does not hold enough power to blackball AZ and I don't think Lyor is thinking about AZ in 2020 at all.
Guaranteed if AZ wanted a deal today from Def Jam or Empire it would be a done deal but AZ got a rep and he would probably want more money than anyone would be willing to give.
That being said - that is far far far away from being blackballed - AZ is saying how he "felt" but Lyor never really did anything tangible to block his success/eating.
I'm gonna need a better example.
Thank you for the receipts tho @Mike Wins

Yeah he was talking about the situation with Lyor making it hard for him to get a deal at a top label 1997-2002 before he went independent. Not that he's still blackballed these days.

@Mike Wins not to split hairs with you but the AZ thing was a combination of AZ's demands and Lyor being salty he couldn't get AZ signed.
And you are talking about the peak of Lyor's power in the late 90s early 2000s so if he REALLY wanted AZ blackballed then it would have been super obvious.
Plus AZ wanted the type of top-tier deal only a few people/labels could have provided and if he turned down Lyor (off of speculation) then there aint many other comparable options AZ would have had unless he went west coast (InterScope) and that might have happened if the RAKIM/Aftermath deal would have been positive/fruitful- but it wasnt.
