Quality should be the most important aspect. Then impact on the music and core audience. Commercial success is close to irrelevant.

There is definitely an east coast bias though. The norm is considered to be Illmatic as opposed to Crreping On A Come Up. The origin of the music has something to do with that, also the east was dominant initially. That's why you get terms like Southern Classic, etc.

I agtee with the quality comment. But some of them so called classics aint that great of quality. Illmatic's beats aint shyt. Lyrically nas aint even spitting as good as pac was on 2pacalypse now. BUT they act like he did something special. And creepin on ah come up is waaaaay better than illmatic in various ways

When I compare the two albums, I mean style of production and rapping. I emphatically disagree with everything youre saying here. Although I can't really compare Nas to bone because I can't understand Bone and their beats (outside of singles) are monotonous to me.

Production is subjective though.

5 pages in and nobody mentions LL Cool J and eric b & rakim? seriously?

ll cool j - radio, BAD, MSKYO
eric b & rakim - PIF, follow the leader, let the rhythm hit em
ice cube - kill at will, amerikkka's most wanted, death certificate

also - I agree with pac, jay & bdp. and I agree with bone thugs as an arguable pick at least.

and that's it, unless you want to get technical and combine group & solo albums for certain artists.

art of war was not a damn classic:whoa:

art of war is better than 75% of the albums mentioned in this thread.

I can tell you that much.

:rudy: Stop with that revisionist bullshyt
If it's your opinion, cool, but more than the majority of hip-hop fans feel differently.

Eminem albums were never anywhere near classics in the hip-hop world.

you must mean hip-POP.

Killa got zero classics. DI the closest, but that was carried by production.

DI wasn't carried by production.

that chit is heavily quoted from top-to-bottom.

Never heard a Silkk album. Liked P's stuff before he left the Bay. Never heard anyone call any of Silkk's albums classics. You saying Southern classic?

:dead: at SSLP being a classic, shyt is more outdated than an early 80s album

MMLP is the only arguable one. Eminem Show is 3.5 mics to me
