I don't believe blackballed because you can just go independent, I can upload an album to iTunes right now. A lot of people just stop rapping because they simply can't make a hit record, don't know how to market themselves or just are bad at making music and stop rapping

here is why this whole "BLACKBALLING" ideal is Flawed....

i grew up on late 80s rap and 90s rap...where you had ARTISTS whom probally were worthy of getting blackballed for the contreversial shyt they spoke about :whew:

but NOTHING HAPPNENED TO THEM...you know why?

Labels look at the bottom line regardless...thier is NOTHING absolutely NOTHING SO CONTREVERSIAL that they wouldn't promote...

Public Enemy...Paris....X Clan and Brand Nubian were throwing mad shots at Jews and White Devils in thier records....

and they all had deals with MAJOR LABELS and continued to have deals even after thier most contreversial work was exposed in the media

Public Enemy (def jam/sony)

Paris (Priority Records/Ktel canadian distributor)

X Clan (Island Records/MCA )

Brand Nubian (Elektra/Warner Bros)

if Public Enemy could get away with dissing Rabbis and calling out white supremacy on FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET and NOT GET BLACKBALLED...what makes you think Joe Budden would get the black balled treatement..he ain't no damn threat :camby:

Chuck D said it best when he was responding to a question by BET's ED GORDON on if he feared some kind of reprisal or blacballing from the brass at his record label... "he said no not at all...the cats at SONY didn't care if we talked all this "black stuff" cause they made the MONEY regardless"......... :manny:

so back to what i said earlier...

NO SUCH THING AS BLACKBALLING ..SIMPLY AN ARTIST FALLING OUT OF FAVOR WITH HIS LABEL BECAUSE OF POLITICS OR SIMPLY NOT BEING SEEN AS WORTHY OF PROMOTING BECAUSE HE OR HER IS NOT MARKETABLE..

AND BEING THAT THERE IS ONLY 3 MAJOR LABELS IN THE WORLD FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS..EACH ONE ROTATING LABEL HEADS BETWEEN THEM... (DOUG MORRIS....TOMMY MOTTOLA..LYOR COHEN...SYLVIA RHONE...LA REID ..BARRY WEISS) its easy to be CAST OUT because of the close knit ties these label heads share...

but that DOES NOT MEAN ONE IS BLACKBALLED....there are so many conduits especially in todays internet age for an artist to get his voice heard..

even back then when black nationlist rapper PARIS got dropped from TOMMY BOY cause of remarks about george bush and views on the police he was still able to secure deals and even down the line was able to sign and release music thru FONTANA RECORDS which was a division of UNIVERSAL RECORDS as well him being able to secure a respected posisiton with VICE MEDIA as a content creator....

so the bottom line is AS LONG AS YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO GENERATE REVENUE...

YOU CAN NEVER GET BLACKBALLED IN THE INDUSTRY

Why nikkas forget he was on Def Jam in 2003?

He went at Hov on the pump it up remix and he was like :scusthov:not today nikka.

Budden has never been mainstream or close to it since.

Naaaaa I remember it differently. I remember Joe Budden coming out with single after single which didn't connect (including that shyt with Nate Dogg) I remember Budden bytching & moaning since 04 but he didn't hold up his end of the bargain...

It's tough to say because people fall off or never fulfill their potential....and some people actually do get blackballed

Op should change thread title to "Rappers I wish had more commercial success"
I think Joe Budden is corny as fukk and I don't even listen to his music.

I thought there would be actual examples of rappers that got blackballed but people just naming names to name em. Or the names of rappers that just fell off or rappers they don't like. There's a difference between being blackmailed as supposed to just becoming irrelevant.

:pachaha:

Basically

90% of names is a bunch of sidekick rappers nobody really a gave a fukk about. The record label thought they could eat off the main rapper homies and signed them and realized that wasn't such a good idea after they only sell 6,000 copies.
