If you remember being around when this was all going down, Joe budden's claim was that Def Jam refused to release any music he made after Jay took over. Took tracks from his second album and released them unfinished as mood muzik 2. He then stop making music for years till Jay stepped down. Some time after that he was dropped for being inactive. Budden claims that this move was on purpose to get him released from his contract.

During all this Joe budden was building his brand on the Internet where he couldn't be silenced. He's managed to keep himself relevant enough on the Internet so they can't just ignore him.

I also remember them fukking up the release of his first album by not releasing focus as a single even tho it was already hot on the streets. They released trash as fire. He coulda sold more but his sales were good enough to warrant a second album, which created the notion that Jay z had him blackballed.

I didn't pay too much attention to Buddens back then, didn't listen to him much until Mood Muzik 2. I just don't think it comes down to blackballing as much as him being young and not playing by the industry politics and rules. I bet if you ask him today he probably wouldn't say it was blackballing. Yes blackballing DOES happen but I just think a lot of examples in the thread have other explanations before you start running around saying such and such is blacklisted.

I agree, that's why I prefaced by stating that this is what buddens was claiming at the time. I was never really a budden's fan but I remember him being vocal about his issues on the Internet.

They posted the list that was hanging in one of the control rooms a long time ago
This was right around DelaSoul Grind date... they only played a couple videos a few times ... and then DeLaSoul kind of disappeared after that until this year

Same Master P that got caught buying Soundcloud plays through bots not too long ago :mjlol:
Streams register as advertisement dollars. Streams are data traffic and the higher the number the more money you could potentially negotiate for. He just got caught.:yeshrug:

:gucci:Do you think Drake with his "record breaking" streams across all platforms are also legit?:skip::mjgrin::patrice::hubie:

Fill me in here, i never heard about reese, I just heard rumors he was sick (he got Crohn's I or something) how did Reese get blackballed for beating up a chick but famous Dex out here still

Maybe cuz Dex almost lost when he was throwing hands with his girl:hubie:

lil reese almost lost his fight too. he had to cheat to win,

go back & watch the footage. and look at his man sneaking around.

Why are Joe Budden fans always trying to re-write history or make excuses for him?

Def Jam put a TON of promo into him. Even STOKED the flames for him to go at Jay-z. The guy was getting big videos shot, payola like a muhfukka for Pump It Up, he was in a fukking video game, they put him all over the place. An unknown guy, from JERSEY, getting a push like that organically? G T F O.

They wasted a ton of money on him, never got what they put in, so he got released.

:whoa:

joe budden wasn't unknown.

he was one of the biggest rappers during the golden era of the mixtape circuit for a good 2-3 years before his album dropped. he was clue's 2nd option behind fabulous.

def jam did lose a ton of money on him, and it messed up the budgets for other artists they were droppin around that time. but that's partially their fault for the oversaturation, trying to make him into def jam's answer to 50 cent, when that wasn't his template at all.

No one outside of Philly/New York/NJ cared about the 2nd rate guy behind Fabolous until the Def Jam push came and that Focus/Pump It Up payola kicked in.

And yes, they wanted to make him the lyricist answer to 50 cent and it wasn't his lane at all. He wasn't black balled though. He has chosen his career path. He wanted to make moody music instead of Pump It Ups.

by that logic, the general public doesn't care about any rapper until the label push comes.
budden was one of the biggest underground rappers leading up to his debut.

I don't know. him not doing anything the whole time jay-z was in office, is mad suspicious.

There are plenty of rappers who have singles that are popular with out the label pulling out all the stops.....In Da Club was a popular song coast to coast with out Interscope going insane to get it to blow. What's the guy from Detroit who just blew up off that first day out single?

Pump It Up was on TWO major movie sound tracks, had THREE video game placements, Def Jam payola on with the DJs/radio stations was heavy and that is why the parent company forked over tons of cash for it, the shot a video for it that was getting major rotation......

Jay-z didn't do shyt to him, he was already washed when Jay got there. They just didn't continue to waste money on him.

Some people are fukking dense. Even after posting the definition of the word blacklist, it's amazing this idiot is still saying Eazy was blackballed.

tag me when you talk chit, puzzy.

and clearly we're not going by the text book definition. if we did that, there prolly would be no thread for this at all.

its clearly about rappers who fell victim to industry politics. I don't know how many times this needs to be said.

"in da club" was far from 50 cent's 1st single. not to mention that the interscope hype for 50 cent was already going on before that song dropped.
this Detroit rapper doesn't even have a name.

budden wasn't washed. altho, def jam did lose money on him. with that said, I was never arguing for budden, but its definitely suspicious.
