this was my takeaway from Joey Sadass coming out talking about he wrote Rockstar for Post Malone and other songs. Yeah writing is lucrative but you didnt start rapping to play the background so whats going on

It's as you said, not everyone a star or has star qualities.

Cube has some of the GOAT releases, but his sound changed with every squad he hung with. Coincidence, could be, but.....

I think some rappers have dope voices and dope flows. Do I think so much of their sound that I would listen to them read me a Dr Seuss book? No.

Because the MAIN thing is the #barz.

Dope voice + wack bars = garbage.

Or. Dope voice who can't actually write their own bars = garbage.

A rapper with a weird or average voice, but ill barz is still dope. B Real. Eminem. Phife. Biz*. GZA and RZA.

Conclusion. A dope voice really helps but the thing for me is barz. If you can't write them then you're not actually dope.

Edit: *just hit me that Biz was HEAVILY written for. I hate to say it but, the fact that he had Downs Syndrome makes me give him a pass.

Why are there words on the track in the first place?

Why not just scat or speak in tongues?

If there are words, dope words are better than wack ones.

But I'd agree. Rap fans have accepted wack lyrics for far too long. Now the whole product of pop Rap is on the decline because of the same. Along with the rehashing of the tracks.

Only pppl worth writing for now is Meg and Cardi.

Pop, R&B and country are full of writers. Music is more than just Hip-Hop. When it comes to getting placements producers often have to send instrumentals with hooks even for hip hop. Not only will you get credit for producing in that case but writing as well.
