This is why I don't claim Baltimore even though I can. The DMV is filled with nothing with haters.

Baltimore ain't a part of the DMV. Baltimore exists in a parallel universe and a time warp where it's still 1993 in a bad way. :sas2: The DMV is basically limited to anywhere you can get to on the DC metro line. Culturally, Baltimore has nothing in common with the DMV. Accents, clothing, mentality, vibe everything is different. People from the DMV are stuck-up whether they be from an old money family or they from the projects. :pacspit: You can spot a DC/PG nikka a mile away from their gear alone because no one dresses like them. Baltimore nikkas go through phases where they want to be like NY nikkas (adopting NY slang, accents and swag) or they want to be like Cali nikkas (becoming Bloods and Crips for a few years back in the mid 2000's) or they want to be like Down South nikkas (i.e. dikkriding South music). DC/PG is different from MoCo/NoVa. MoCo/NoVa is diverse but it's bougie stuck up white people culture that is dominant. PG County has hella bougie stuck up black people too, but PG has hella real hood areas as well mostly bordering SE and NE DC. But even black people from MoCo are basically white culturally. This is one of the biggest reasons why DC don't claim Wale. MoCo blacks emulate what they see on BET, MTV Jams and Worldstar. They not out in the trenches like nikkas in the District. MoCo nikkas sound funny forcing slang that they've heard Southern rappers say. :russ: MoCo nikkas are completely comfortable being surrounded by nothing but bougie preppy white people and they lust over the most basic white hoes. :mjlol:But at the end of the day Wale did spend some time growing up in murder cap era DC off of Georgia, so he's not a complete perpetrator. :yeshrug: There are thousands of corny MoCo and NoVa nikkas who never lived in the District a day in their life saying they from DC though.

For MGK it's a little different breh
He had a fukked up childhood and at school got picked on

When he moved to Cleveland in his teens his life got better and the kids at school liked him
Not giving him a pass but imagine being ripped on everyday home and school.. then finally finding a place you can call home! You would want to rep that place to the fullest

No I don't like MGK music but I know some shyt about him that relates to me
He's my breh's breh...Cool guy...Used to live out EAST...in EC...Not just shaker. He's also technically from Denver. It's tatted on him.

the Bay is that way, too. you could grow up less than 2 miles from Oakland,in let's say,San Leandro but you'll never in a million years get away with claiming Oakland. they'd laugh you out of town. San Francisco is the same way, you're either from the City proper, or not. can't be from the burbs and say you're from the City or the Town.

I'm from San Francisco. Lakeview to be exact. And the Bay is different because we show love to outta towners. I live in Maryland now and DMV nikkas are NOT open to outta towners. Try talking to a stranger on the street in DC and they'll look at you like you crazy. In SF, you can light up a blunt at a bus stop and start talking to random strangers and make some new acquaintances/friends on the spot. :myman:Also, because of gentrification in SF, there almost ain't no natives left. Almost everybody in SF not born and raised there. :francis: But the Bay has always been much more lenient in letting outta towners claim the Bay in terms of the Rap game. Fillmoe nikkas had no issues with Messy Marv claiming Fillmoe for years until he started claiming Blood even though Mess was from Pittsburg/Concord. Bay nikkas took Pac in. All of Pac's real homies was from the Bay and the Bay keeps Pac alive unlike the East Coast where they don't even play him on the radio no more. Richmond nikkas never had an issue with Master P claiming Richmond. Fillmoe nikkas took in the Game and let him soak up game (pun intended) before he blew up in 05'. All of that shyt could have never happened out here in the DC area. If you ain't from DC/PG, nikkas out here won't even talk to you let alone fukk with you and make music and money with you and let you claim their city.

After death effects. Since his death 2pac is basically a religious sect so despite facts you have to fall in line and dikkride to the core or get emotional heat. It's mythical imagery created
once he died. None of which existed when he was alive. Just as loved, disrespected and in-between as any ol rapper now or then. Now all of a sudden he's a "credible thug nikka" who at
the same time was the most "socially conscious" dude ever who might've become a president

You are 100% right about Baltimore being baby NY/Philly (depending on who's hot in rap at the time.)

Doesn't stop what I said about the hater mindset that permeates through the ENTIRE DMV.

That's true about the DMV. The DMV is a lot like NYC in the fact that they look down on everybody. White people from DC act like New Yorkers care too much about fashion and are "unprofessional" and act like Cali folks are lazy weedhead weirdos who are too friendly. It's East Coast provincialism at it's worst. Everybody who isn't from DC/PG is a "bama" to DC/PG nikkas. You could be from New York, you still a bama. You could be from Cali, you still a bama. This is why you don't really see DC/PG nikkas moving state to state making money independent hustling, making music, clothing lines etc. fukking with dudes from other states and cities like you do with Bay nikkas and Down South nikkas. For example, Kansas City has always been a huge market for Bay Rap and Bay nikkas stay making money moves back and forth from the Midwest. But people in Norfolk don't even listen to DC Go-Go music.

I have some friends and family that do music and I always tell them they have to leave the DMV. Seven years later nothing has really happened in their careers and they're wondering why.

Like you said, Baltimore negus don't listen to DC artists. DC negus don't collab with NoVA people. Its all really insane considering how close they are geographically. I have one homie that's from PG/Oxon area and he has a completely different taste than my other homie from Baltimore county. Neither like Wale or listen to any homegrown talent. It's insane because that won't happen down South (I claim NC now, been here the longest.)

In NC we show love to basically everyone south of VA because we KNOW how hard it is for them to get on, and for every South artist that gets on it creates a cottage industry for our local talent to get on as well. Shawty Lo comes out and gets shows in 2015. Yo Gotti is spun down here like he's Pac. 2 Chainz is basically a god anywhere south of VA. Don't even get my started on Migos, Gucci, Waka, etc. They could name their price and sell out a venue.

Meanwhile since I left Baltimore has Los (who no one listens to,) and that "Fish Don't Fry in the Kitchen" guy :heh: and DC has Wale, Shy Glizzy, and a bunch of Lil Reese wannabes. shyt is sad.

I mean...I understand that, but he actually went and was liked by kids from Shaker, not Cleveland.

Shaker Heights is a suburb directly surrounding/touching Cleveland like Warrensville Heights, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Beachwood, and East Cleveland. MGK is from Shaker but reps Cleveland...which is cool, but part of the reason he doesn't get as much love as he should here as a "Cleveland" rapper.

Same for Cudi.

i remember thinking for the longest that this nikka was from brownsville or ENY :dead:

per wiki--

Elam was born in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Harry, was a judge and his mother, Barbara, was the co-director of libraries in the Boston public school system.

dude was far-removed from the street life :wtf:

funny af cuz this is one of the quintessential tracks you think of when you think of hip-hop coming out of BK... shout out to premo and the whole borough

Not really, maybe dude was in the streets hanging out with street cats. Perhaps once he hit Brooklyn? I dunno! But I think people hangout with who attracts them not who's parents make as much as there's.

But that's kind of irrelevant anyway, because he never talked about gangs and such did he? Maybe knocking people out, but I appreciate his message and how he didn't try to be something he's not, aka the summation of "Mass Appeal".

We gotta stop expecting every black man to be in the streets, its a lame idea.
