read the post above this one.

I can't even believe Common...this Common now...is the same Common that dropped "Resurrrection", "One Day It Will All Make Sense", and "Like Water For Chocolate". Some of his more conscious and politically charged songs are so great they go beyond hip-hop. And he's always had those dope lines that were nonchalantly put out there, in the company other other intruging lines...like this

("still together...like in the ghetto photo with one n!gga in a chair...holding liquor in despair gang signs in the air...")1-9-9-9.

Is the same one who got bytchmade and became the safe rapper. Even Ice Cube, who parallels Com in alot of ways, can still tap into that aware and conscious vibe even after all of the success he had.

I see the bytch in yoo...when you don't speak your mind.

I'll speak my mind...that oscar went to his head.

Same thing happened to 3-6. Look at Juicy J. He said he wouldnt do a 36M reunion for less than $6 million dollars.

I'm not expecting rappers...who are indeed mortals and men like you and i...to stay the same from 25-40. THings change, we have differnt priorities then compared to now...but damn, his comments and actions are that of a complete mainstream robot and honestly a soft effeminate emasculated bytch nikka nowadays. This is not the Common I remember. Or maybe he was always fake...I don't know.

Common was always "the safe rapper" though. I've seen people refer to Common as soft ever since "The Light". He's given some powerful commentary on social issues, but a lot of the things he's said was more thoughtful and insightful than it was provocative. He was never along the lines of a Chuck D, Pac, Ice Cube or Nas where what he was saying was hard for those who weren't a part of the experience to digest. He was never the type of rapper that mainstream media looked at as controversial or was so provocative or radical that he made them uncomfortable.

Common's just more of a pacifist when it comes to issues of race. His recent comments come across as his solution to racism is being a peace maker. Not saying I agree, but that's what I get from his comments.

I can't really think of anybody.

I admire these guys because of the craft, they are human beings, it's a given that they will say and do things that I may not agree with. I'd feel like i'd be going out of my way to lose respect for somebody I didn't know or probably didn't respect beyond their artistry in the first place.

Yep, Common def.
Went from stanning him to not being a big fan anymore. I still respect him though.

I think he fell off when he dropped Universal Mind Control.
Also No I.D. fell off hard on Com's last album.

Okay, i hear ya. Appreciate u for explaining ur view. I guess i can understand ur point. But 3-6? I never looked at 3-6 more than anything than ur stereotypical rapper tbh. So did whatever Juicy J said go against something u felt they stood for before? Cuz i dont see it tbh. But i get ur overall point tho.

But like my man above said, isnt that common tho? I mean just to play devils advocate what if his experience changed which made him see & learn more about certain things that mightve changed his outlook? Or what if his comments - whatever they were - were just his opinion? Is that really a "safe rapper" thing? I dont know.
